Hi moms!! We recently moved into our new home and I am having the hardest time picking out furniture and decorating our home. Is there a furniture place you recommend or websites that can maybe help me put some ideas together? The only room I have an idea as to how to decorate is our masterbedroom, Im looking into asian decor for that room, but as far as the living room, family room go, I have no clue. Any suggestions will help Thxs.

Hi! I am an interior designer with almost 25 years experience and have researched great sources for home furnishings. I can do an in-home consultation for $85 that would help you make a master plan that stays within your budget and also help with where to go to get what you need. Please check out my web site--akcustominteriors.com. I would love to help you!

Hi, E.. I'm not sure what type of budget you are working with, because if you're from Dallas you know that you can easily spend thousands on furniture here! My favorite store for furniture that won't break the bank is Weir's. Their website is www.weirsfurniture.com, and there you can view their recent ads. I think they offer a great selection of items you won't see in every other store for very reasonable prices. My other piece of advice is don't feel like you need to fill your new home overnight. The fun of the new home is taking time to find pieces that really speak to you and make you happy. Your room won't feel like "you" if you rush out to some local accessories store and buy a bunch of filler. I run an interior redesign company where I use your existing furnishings and accessories and make them look new. If you are interested, go to www.yourhometransformed.com. Remeber, take your time and have fun with it!! Good luck!

Go to www.hgtv.com and find the "Rate My Space" section. You can tell it which rooms you want to look at and you will have thousands to see.

We re-decorated and painted in our living room recently, and bought new furniture. We actually found the best deal for the look we wanted at The Dump. We bought a nice sectional sofa, room sized rug, coffee table and 2 end tables for the price of one sectional at the retail stores that have the areas put together for you. So you could get ideas of the style you want from a magazine and go there to find the pieces. I would also check out Better Homes & Gardens, Style (for home), and other websites like those for ideas.
Good Luck!

I would make a list of priorities for each room, that is, what are the primary uses for the room. Your focal point gives you a place to start(especially when you're starting over!) and helps keep you organized and to-the-point so you don't get off track or distracted by the overwhelming amount of choices. A focal point could be something small like a favorite vase, pillow, or picture that you use as inspiration for colors or something as large as an entertainment center. Then, go to Half Price books or some place that has a good selection of magazines, and pick up a handful of magazines to scan through and find pictures/ideas of things you like. Each room will most likely be a work in progress until you've lived with them for a while. I would start with the bare minimum in each room, getting only what you must have to function, and then, as you spend time in each room imagine specific things that would improve the room for you and your family. Always go with your gut instinct. If you're agonizing over a decision, going back and forth, or talking yourself into something don't do it! Hold out for things that you know that you love. If it's not a sure thing, wait a while before you commit. If you're still having a hard time making decisions or stuck in a rut, don't be afraid to think outside the box and force yourself to regroup and think about other possibilities. Better Homes and Gardens, Good Housekeeping, and the IKEA catalog have been helpful to me at times, but the person who really taught me all this is my sister who has an awesome sense of style and has moved 8 times! She taught me basics like, one of the first things you need in a living area is a "conversation circle" which is a clearly defined area with furniture arranged so that people can see and talk to each other comfortably. If you have a friend/relative whose style you like and would be willing to help, a fresh perspective is priceless sometimes! I was so clueless until my sister helped me. Now, between her teaching me the basics and me living in my house for a while and forcing me to trust my instincts, I finally feel somewhat confident in arranging/decorating a room! Good luck!
