HI,
not sure on the fish but my sisters ped told her not til over 3 years old for the peanut butter.
My girls are all older now and I remember giving them peanut butter and jelly finger foods by the time they were 1yr.
At what age do you start adding foods like fish and peanut butter?
HI,
not sure on the fish but my sisters ped told her not til over 3 years old for the peanut butter.
My girls are all older now and I remember giving them peanut butter and jelly finger foods by the time they were 1yr.
We started peanut butter at 1. My son really doesn't care for it.
Fish we also started at one.
We are waiting until my son is 3 for shellfish because I have a allergy.
If you Dr says its ok then go for it.
But if there is a allergy I would wait until he is a little older.
We have some food allergies that run in the family and my 10 month old daughter was just tested for dairy and nut allergy. Luckily, she did not have a reaction but the doctor wanted us to be safe and wait to introduce certain foods. Here is what he told us:
Peanut Butter - 3 years old
Egg - 2 years old
Shellfish - 3 years old
THe longer you wait to introduce foods the less likely you are to have an allergic reaction. I believe they are saying 2 years for PB if there are no known allergies in the families. I know our parents probably gave us PB when we were 6 months old and most of us are fine. Who knows. When our kids are parents it will be back to 6 months again.
Either way, I wanted to pass along what the allergist told us. Good luck!
T.,
My pediatrician said to wait on peanut butter until at least 1 year. I also know a mother who just started her 12 month old on peanut butter. Not sure about fish--but I plan on giving my son fish around 9 months because we eat it a lot for dinner and I don't think it causes as severe an allergic reaction as PB can. Also, no high mercury fish will be on the menu--probably mostly wild salmon, tilapia and shrimp.
I started at 12 months with peanut butter. Fish like tuna and fish sticks I started around 9 or 10 months. We are not real prone to allergies. The only allergy I have is to MSG in chinese food that I was not exposed to until after high school. So I don't see a reason to wait til the 3 years that some say for peanut butter, though that's my personal opinion. Just spread it thin since it's so sticky/pasty. :)
