There's a video called Elmo's Potty Time. It's really informative and cute. If he like Elmo, that might be helpful.
Best of luck!

My 16 month old seems interested in the bathroom. I want to introduce the bathroom/potty to him. How did you introduce/talk to your toddler about the potty and what it is for?

There is an Elmo movie and book that my daughter still loves and she has been potty trained for two years. We also put a special basket of books next to the potty that was only read while sitting on the potty.
When she was actually ready to potty train, we skipped to underware and just changed her as needed. We stayed home and went to the potty frequently. It was quick and easy!
Good luck!
If you haven't already, let him go with you and your husband. Show by example. I never had to have a special talk about it because my kids were already used to it. By the time they could crawl, they were following me to the bathroom. When they started talking, they started asking. I simply answered the questions.
ETA: Remember that he is still very young. Encourage him, but not expect anything for at least another year. He may surprise you and do great, but more likely, he is just getting the idea.
For both of my boys, I just pulled it out and explained simply that you pee and poop in it. Then when I would go to the bathroom I would encourage them to go and take off the diaper. My youngest who is 2 and mostly trained at first just liked sitting on it with the diaper on, then when I wasn not even expecting him to think about actually using it, he just say I have to pee in potty and went. So I would just keep it in the bathrooms, talk about it some and follow your child's cues.
He's still pretty young so I'd get the book "Potty Training Your Baby" or something for young toddlers. Take him with you every time you go and have him practice sitting. If he ever goes, make a HUGE deal about it.
there are many good books on the market today aboutpotty training and there is the watching mom or dad to to the potty.let her or him sit on the potty while you sit on the big potty..make a game of it
Well, I guess I am backwards in today's world. I started sitting my children on the potty when they were six months old. They followed me and my husband to the bathroom when they started crawling and walking so they knew what it was for and we didn't need to explain it. There is a great book out titled something like "What to Expect When You Use the Potty" that someone gave my grandson for his 1 year birthday which was actually quite good.
I had a large bathroom so we had a potty chair in there. I would get them up, take them to the potty chair, turn the water on low and sit with them for a few minutes before we washed up and got dressed for the day. If they went there was a lot of praise and a reward. After meals, before naps and bed, all times we went to the potty chair and were rewarded. We played pat-a-cake, peek-a-boo, etc. when they were very little while sitting there. It worked for us.
Hi R.
When my kids started to show interest in going potty and what it was for, I would explain to them what its used for..of course in simple terms and I would say thats what big boys/girls use to go potty in instead of diapers. My daughters would go in the bathroom with me and my boys would go in with their dad..this way they could see and at the same time..it was all being explained to them again. Then I would ask them if they wanted to try
Good Luck and God Bless

Hi R. the help below sounds really good. I set the potty chair close to the big peoples toilet and explained that the big potty is for mommy and daddy and the small one is for you. When you get to big to use your potty then you can use the big potty. This may sound silly but that is the way we did it and it worked. Good Luck
