my son's school did a Minute to Win It mother/son night...it was really fun! Lots of stations and everyone got a photo.
Hi ladies- I'm on a comittee at my son's school that plans family fun nights. We are planning a father/Daughter Dance and would also like to plan something for the mom's and son's. This is a K-5 school. We would like to hold the event at the school in the Gym. Have any of you ever planned an event like this or have any good idea's? If so, what did you charge per couple? FYI- This committee is not a fundraiser, we just look to make enough to pay for the activities. I was thinking something to do with sports. Like making the dress code be "Wear your favorite Jersey" or something like that? Thank you in advance!
A HUGE thank you to all of you that responded! I love this site! Happy New Year everyone!

I'm having a hard time coming up with a theme, because I keep thinking that boys can benefit from a mother/son dinner or dance, too. Just like girls might like to build box cars or play games with their fathers.
Figure out the costs of the drinks and snacks and say, "$10 per couple to cover food, drinks, movies, games."
I love the Minute to Win it idea! Sounds like a blast! You could even practice beforehand. :)
I haven't planned an event like this but what about "Mother/Son Gym Class...have stuff like short basketball, volleyball, wiffle ball, etc. some dashes and other physical activites?
The best one I've been to was a Game Night, complete with a dodge ball tournament. OMG so fun watching those moms and boys pummel each other!
The cost was fairly low because it was in the school gym and many supplies were available through the PE teacher (cones, flags, balls, hula hoops, etc.) You need to sit down and make a detailed budget before you set a price, and think about the extras: a photo booth/frame making station? popular music playing on the PA system?
Have fun!!!
You could do a mini olympics theme each"team" competes but the Mom version of the task is a lot less strenuous and make this known than the sons version. See if any sports places, stores, soccer clubs, gymastic places, park district, or any ther businesses will donate anything for raffle baskets,or awards. Each team could wear matching colors or favorite teams this helps include everyone as not everyone has the cash for 2 licensed bear jerseys. Food, activities could all be included or it could be like 2.00 to get in and there would be popcorn and lemonade and everything else would cost to partcipate this way the mom's could control their level of participation. Raffle baskets can be done via raffle or silent auction.
my kids go to Ridge Elementary in Plainfield and our PTO has done an awesome event the last few years for the Moms/Sons. Unfortunately I have girls. The Daddy/Daughter dance is lame, so we don't go. The sons stuff is cool. I know two years ago they did Knights Training School and last year they did Hoe Down. Wish I had a boy, lol. If you private message me I will give you the email of the PTO person in charge, otherwise you can go to the district 202 website and go to elementary schools, Ridge, then PTO and find the info that way. She does an amazing job, like I said, really cool fun BOY stuff that the girls wish they could do honestly.
Instead of Fundraisers.. We called these events "Fun Raisers"
I agree a sports game night would be fun.
Make races out of obstacle courses the top winners will have a final race.
Bounce the ball all the way to the Hula hoops, Hula Hoop 3 times around the race, run to jump rope, jump rope 4 times, hop in one foot around cones.. then get a ball in the basket 3 times.. etc..
Minute to win it sound like a blast!
You have received great ideas. When I read your question I remembered the set-up at local school. They included all kids by having any significant woman, even a favorite aunt, grandmother or big sister attend with the student. Hope you have a great evening.
our school did a mother son hoe down (cowboy clothes and square dancing along with other music) kids loved it. didn't charge a lot. I think it was like 10 a couple. then you could buy food inside.
