My baby will be 4 months tomorrow. Yesterday we had a very strange day... He was SO fussy, drooling like crazy, rubbing his chin to my shoulder, bitting everything and eating a lot.... He slept great at night... Is he teething?? BTW no fever....

What can I do next?

Sounds like he's teething. Neither of my daughters ever had a fever when teething..Every child is different...

He could be teething, but both of my boy started doing the same thing around 4 months and I could even see liitle spots on his gums where the teeth were going to be....but no teeth actually appeared for a couple months! Teething tablets and Tylenol or motrin ( or their generic equivalents) worked well for us. BUT, you baby is too young for Motrin (Ibuprofen) which he should start getting until he is 6 months. Also if he is a little fussy but he's sleeping OK, it's not necessary to medicate him...I would only medicate him if he seems really uncomfortable and can't sleep.

Probably! Congrats!

Get some Hyland Teething Tablets and a generic form of acetominophen... Use the tablets more than the acetominophen... they are all natural and have chamomile in them, which will not only relieve some of the pain, but also calm his nerves a bit. Use the acetominophen when you know he's really hurting and uncomfortable.

PS - Motrin (name brand) and Tylenol have been recalled. Get the Equate brand for a while until things with that settle down.

Absolutely. The drooling is a major sign of teething.

Definitely sounds like teething, but don't expect a tooth to pop thru anytime soon. My son started showing signs of teething at 3 mos, but didn't get his first tooth until 6 mos. They can teeth for months before a new tooth comes thru. Teethers, frozen washcloths, your fingers, are all great...if he gets really fussy, orajel or tylenol (although I usually only gave those to my son at night, if he couldn't sleep because of the pain).

It is very well possible that your little guy is teething already. Our little girl got her first 2 teeth at 4 months. She was soooo fussy, and drooling a lot. Sure enough I felt 2 little pokes when I stuck my finger in her mouth.

Hope all goes well, and try some teething tablets. They seemed to help for us. Best wishes!

Sounds about right to me!
Get some teething rings, and use some Motrin if it seems to be hurting him.

Your baby is pretty young to start teething....not unheard of, but still early.

The problem with teething is that you won't know until that darn tooth erupts! :)

I would say no. Your baby is 4 months old. All of those behaviors are par for the course. Remember also that it is allergy season right now and baby could be responding to that as well.

They just start doing funny things...chewing, nipping, rubbing, etc and it may or may not be teething..

Eating a lot is more of an indication of a growth spurt than teething. Don't know if you are nursing or not?

Their systems change so much and so quickly...my cousin is going through the same thing you are and after a few days it all went away. You will go into fussy periods here and there.

If and when you get evidence of a tooth, I recommend Hylands Teething Tablets. They are awesome! You can get them anywhere. Stay away fron those awful topical things like Orajel that, when overused, can cause problems...plus who wants to put that junk in baby's mouth?

Hang in mama...this too shall pass!

He could be having some movement yes , they can start around 4 months but be prepared that you may not see any teeth for a few months yet , the teething process can take a long time , but once that first 1 or 2 teeth have come through they usually follow quite quickly after that.

My little one started drooling heavily and mouthing things more at 4 months too. She was a very fussy baby, so I couldn't really guage any difference in that department. But the other similar symptoms persisted for about 2 months before we saw any sign of imminent teeth on her gums. Nonetheless, I think she was very likely experiencing early movement of her teeth down in the gums. Your baby may be the same way. I'm sure it's a strange and uncomforable feeling for a baby. Everything must be so new and foreign for them! It's certainly not unheard of for a baby to teeth as early as 4 months, but your baby may be like mine also. We had a rattle with a "teething" disc on the end filled with liquid that could be refrigerated. It was great and easy for her to grasp and control. However, she didn't really take to it that early. I don't think that kind of thing provides much relief until the teeth are closer to erupting. (But that's just my own perception, not based on anything really!) I agree with idea of holding off on medication if your baby is just fussy. You'll know when the little one is really in need of extra relief!

hi N.,yes, your baby is showing the signs of teething. he doesnt have to run a fever, but that does happen sometimes.you might want to start buying some teething toys! good luck! oh, p.s., i saw a note here stateing to try motrin for pain; i wouldnt use that unless your babies pediatrician says its ok, and the correct dose. my sons g-i dr. says motrin causes ulcers/ due to it is very acidic.

He definately could be. I bought these little mesh food holders. I think gerber makes them. I put fresh or frozen watermelon in them. both my sons love it. (2yo & 6mth) Especially fo the teething.
