I went bowling when I was 36 weeks pregnant and didn't have a problem. In fact I did better than I ever did when I wasn't prego!
Hi Mamas-
Before I found out I was pregnant (which was just a couple of days ago), my girlfriends asked me if my husband and I are interested in participating in this season's couples bowling league. We did it last year and had a total blast, and so I told them, "yes." Well, like I said, I have since found out I am pregnant again and don't know if it is safe to go bowling. I know that I am supposed to limit the amount I lift, but the ball I use is only 12 lbs.--- my concern lies more with the movement. Did any of you bowl while pregnant? I don't want to tell my girlfriends yet that I am pregnant, because it is so early, but the season starts next month, and if it isn't safe for me to participate, then I am going to have to come up with some kind of excuse!

I started a once a month bowling league, and after the first month, found out I was pg. I bowled every month, except for when I was 9 mos, because my back was killing me. My doc says lifting anything over 20lbs is when it will start hurting, so you should be fine.
I did aerobics all the way through my pregnancy. Only did water aerobics in the later months but I actually did water aerobics the day I had my son. My husband says that is why he is so sports minded.
I would say go for it unless your doctor says different.
think about it sometimes a grocery bag weighs more than your bowling ball and what about your son, you will carry him around.

I'm sure its fine if you're having a normal pregnancy. But if you're unsure just call your doctors office- they're used to these kinds of questions all the time. There's never a dumb question concerning the health of your baby! My mother *who has 5 kids and has been in a bowling league since before she had any of us* jokes she was always a better bowler when she was pregnant because her belly helped her swing the ball straighter!
I bowled up until 9 months pregnant with my first, so I'm assuming it's fine! :o) I've never heard anything otherwise! Have fun!
Hi S.,
This same situation came up for me recently - not to bowl regularly on a league, but a one time thing for a work outing. I had not told anyone yet either and was concerned about thinking up an excuse. But... I asked my doctor and she said that if I like bowling to go for it. As long as you are in good health and are not lifting something that makes you feel strained, she said it was fine. The problems come much later in the pregnancy -- mainly with balance and chances of falling. But, other than that, no harm to you or the baby. If you are in good shape now, go for it!
I would ask your doctor just to be sure, but my doctor's answer was yes.
Now... when I asked about water-skiing, the response was different! :)
Good Luck
ABSOLUTELY!!! provided there are no risks (like bedrest etc.) if you have no restrictions like that totally fine! I have been bowling on a bowling league for over 25 years - and both my pregnancies i bowled the entire time (from Sept-may season) up until 2 wks before i was due! in fact its true you actually bowl better when you are pg!!! (something to do w/the further along you are your sense of gravity and all that is more stable actually and you bowl better) i swear us bowlers always say how that is true!
so yes - happy bowling! :) and congrats!!!
Unless you are considered high risk, I see no reason why you can't bowl. Have fun
i'd be scared to do that w/the turning. though perhaps i just suck at bowling and don't know how to throw a ball ; P
