Is Pregnancy Possible?

Ok, this is going to sound strange, but I'm really beginning to wonder if I could be pregnant. 2 years ago, we found out I have had 2 strokes during previous pregnancies. In March I had a Tubal and Ablation done. My husband and I decided it was time that we make it permenant that we have no more kids for my health sake. Since the Tubal Ligation, things have been going well. The ablation made my cycles a lot less painful, and long..... Anyhow, I had my last cycle June 8th. I haven't had one since. I've been having symptoms of being pregnant, ie:) craving pickles, sick at 3-5 in the morning, feeling nausous in the morning and around supper time. And a few others symptons that have made me wonder. Is that even possible? I guess the tubal is only 99% sure that one can't get pregnant, could I be that 1%? Stranger things have happened..... Any advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First off, THANK YOU SO MUCH to all who have shared advice. It really was an eye opener that being pregnant could be such a real possibility. The other night I had purchased a test and before I read the instructions, I posted my question. I decided to take the test this morning. Sure enough, even before I took the test, my period started. So, I'm not pregnant. I was under a lot of stress this last month and the last 2 days have been my first 2 relaxing days in over 3 weeks. Thanks again!

It is possible. I know a woman who had a daughter 10 years after her tubal. She had a healthy little girl.

My advice is to see your doctor. I have a niece that had a tubal ligation done about 14 years ago, but her 13 year old daughter is certainly not a figment of our imagination. IT IS POSSIBLE!!!

yes it so is possible. i have a close friend that had two children after having her tubes tied nine-ten years ago. she now has two more beautiful daugthers. we figured some women were meant to bear more children than they want to. my friend "Chris" had her third (first-w/tubes tied) girl a little over a year after she had the procedure....than got preggers again 5 months after she had Maddie. you can call it a blessing. good luck!

Well anything is possible. Take a pregnancy test to ease your mind. If it's negative I would go get a physical to make sure nothing else is wrong. Good Luck.

I have had a Tubal as well and last October I thought for sure I was pregnant...I was 7 weeks late, I was tender, I had all of the pregnancy symptoms...I wasn't pregnant, I never found out why it happened. I personally think I was having sympothay pregnancy because my best friend in the whole world got pregnant at that time.

If you are concerened you should call your doctor or take a test. You are right, there is NO form of birth control that is 100% effictive except abstinance and hystorectomy. My doctor was very clear about that when he did my tubal. It can grow back together after a couple of years...so it isn't out of the relm of possibility. But the likely hood is you have something else going on :)

A tubal is how my little brother came into the world! LOL I agree with the other ladies- just buy a home pregnancy test, and if it comes up negative and you're still having issues, see your doc. The only way to be 100% certain is to remove it all... which causes a lot of stress- and early menopause. Maybe you should discuss with your husband the possibility of him getting a vasectomy as well- that will substatially lower your chances of pregnancy- just a thought. Good luck and take care!

It is very rare, but possible for the tissue to grow back together. I would definitely be getting a pregnancy test, and either way you need to get in to a doctor and find out what is going on.

M.,

I also hsad difficult pregnancies (not as difficult as yours, bless your heart)so I had a tubal ligation. I talked to my doctor after the ligation and yes it is possible to get pregnant, although it is 99% effective. The main thing is that you need to get a pregnancy test as soon as possible and get into your doctor if you are pregnant to make sure it is not a tubal pregnancy. There is a little bit higher risk of tubal pregnancy if you have had your tubes "tied"-- it is probably fine but they will need to do an ultra sound just to be sure. I don't want you to be overly concerned but a lot of women who have had a tubal ligation don't know that you need to check for a tubal pregnancy as soon as you know you are pregnant. Better safe than sorry. Blessings to you and your family. M.

I'd be less concerned about the tubal not being 100% than the risk of carrying after an ablation. Get a test, call the doc, and make sure all is okay. Pregnancy is definitely possible, albeit a very high risk one.

I don't have experience with tubal surgery but I would say go to the dollar store and take the test just to be sure! I actually was thinking the same thing myself except my husband had a vasectomy over four years ago! I haven't had my period since mid June, I think it is stress for me( we are moving and staying in a temporary location, double move ugh!). Have you been stressed out alot? What is ablation? Did your OB reccomend using another birth control method for backup for any amount of time? I'd have to say june 8th would be close to two months. are you normally very regular? Good luck and god bless!

M.,
Get a simple pregnancy test, they can tell so early now and you want to make sure you aren't pregnant with tubal pregnancy, really dangerous. Do it today.
Enjoy your daughters and take care of yourself.

Wow, wouldn't that be something?
Soon after my first son was born, I was about a week late. I was wondering how I was going to handle kids so close, and was starting to freak. I took a test, and it was negative. I kid you not, an hour later my period started.
This last month, I was wondering if I was pregnant. Sore breasts, feeling sick a few times, super tired, and my last "period" seemed to be way too early (I thought it could be implantation bleeding).
Finally I went and bought a test. I was going to wait until the next morning to take it, and wouldn't you know, my period started that night.
It works every time. Just go BUY the test, wait a day, and see if your period comes back. If not, take it and find out!

Yup, it's possible. Take a pregnancy test. You could skip the home test and go straight to a blood test at the doctors. Make sure you ask for the blood test - if they do a urine test, it's the same thing as the home pregnancy test. They blood tests can detect pregnancy much earlier than a urine test.

Best of luck,
S.

yep, just take a preg test. Buy an ept from the store, they are pretty accurate. yes, tubals are not 100%. I work in a womens clinic, and you would be surprised at how many women we see who end up prego, who have had tubals. Other things can caus eyou to skip your cycle, like stress, major change in diet or exercise, those types of things. But i dont know what could accoun t for the craving and morning sickness stuf, unless you are just getting sikc and need some salt from a pickle :) let us know if your prgego or not, good luck

I guess it is pretty common to have a pregnancy after a tubal. My friend became pregnant 2 years after her surgery. she had a healthy son, and I believe the doctors paid all her medical expenses related to the pregnancy! Good luck!

Go get a pregnancy test. My OB told me that pregnancy was very dangerous for both mom and baby after an ablation.

I remember a physician telling me the "problem" with females and ligations is that women are prolific at reproduction to the point that often in time they tend to regenerate their tube. In response, the newer technique is to also cauterize and even clamp the tubes as well. Perhaps, if you have an older doctor, these two things didn't follow the severing. I don't know.

It's also possible you have a psuedo pregnancy where you're body THINKS it's pregnant but is not.

More likely, though, is that you're under a bunch of stress--emotionally and/or physically (sounds like both) for which your body can hold back and amenorrhea sets in for a month or two or more. Think about what's going on and see if you haven't been feeling stressed, depressed, overwhelmed or some similar thing.

It's best to just break down and buy a test to see if your hormone levels are high enough to register on a pregnancy test. I know I'd run out and get one given the same set of symptoms and circumstances. And I second the posts about starting your period after you've purchased a test; it's like losing things, you always find what you're looking for after you've bought another...with periods, it's like your ovaries and your uterus think it'd just be sooooo funny to make you wonder!

Then again, sometimes God just has another plan...
