My doctor told me to start with the veggies since they are harder to get the kids to like and stay away from fruits for awhile. If they get use to the fruits it makes veggies more difficult to introduce. I think pumpkin is fine, but you may want to try to limit the fruits for awhile while you introduce veggies. I did this and my daughter is 19 months and actually requests peas every night for dinner. She has gone so far to get the veggie steamer out of the cabinet and ask for peas.
