Three days is a long time to have diarreah. If he has a fever, don't walk--RUN.
Good luck!

I have a 13 month old son and for the last 3 days he has diareia and has been really cranky. I did hear that there is a stomach virus going around, but I don't think he has it. He eats and everything like normal just those 2 things and that he wakes up in the middle of the night with a little cry and I give him some water and tylenol and he goes right back to sleep. I try to keep his cup full but I have also tried not to give him much diary products. I know the BRAT diet but it doesn't seem to working fast enough for me. I was wondering if there is something you would recommend or should I take him to the doctor.
thanks for all the advice. I will try alot of the ideas. He loves yougart so that is a plus for me. I hope it stops soon. I can't stand the smell of up to 3 gross diapers a day.

My daughter is 15 months and we just got over the same thing. We took her to the doctor and she thought it was stomach bug/teething. She was still eating but she was waking up in the middle of the night crying and I would give her advil and orajel and back to sleep in a few minutes she went. This went on for o'most 2 weeks. During the day she would act cranky and fussy sometimes extra needy.
I just went through this with my five year old .I took him to the dr and our dr still said it was a virus that it just had to run its course .
Is he getting a vitamin with iron? If my sons iron is low his stool is real loose and frequent. Watch his fruit and juice consumption. Too much vitamin C will cause diahrea and reduce his iron absorption.
Give him yogurt...it will stop the diarrhea. As much as he is willing to eat.
Avoiding dairy is really only beneficial if he has a severe cold, but even at that a good dose of yogurt is always a plus. Yogurt is great because 90% of your immune system is in your digestive track, and yogurt contains the essential bacterium your body needs to promote a healthy immune system. The yogurt will help clean out his colon (the intestines) leaving healthy bacteria he needs behind to do its work.
I hope he starts feeling better soon!
Take him to the doctor just to be sure, but if he has diarrhea and a fever, chances are that yeah he has the flu...it is going around and just because he eats well doesn't mean that he doesn't have it. My one year old eats well no matter what's wrong with him, but then again he's the kid of kid that if you stick your hand between him and the food, you're likely to pull back a bloody stump...lol.
I would call the DR and see what he/she thinks, it is still quite possible that he has caught that stomch bug that is going around. My daughter had it and she still ate and drank like normal but had direrra and was throwing up. best of luck
My 7 month old has had diahrrea for about 5 days now. The Dr suggested to switch her to soy formula and the BRAT diet, no fruits. I have been doing this since yesterday and she woke up in the middle of the night screaming with 2 diahrrea rounds. She hasn't had another one today so I am hoping the soy will help.
The Dr said unless there is blood in the stool or she isn't eating there is nothing they can do so ... I haven't even bothered calling. She is urinating daily and she is drinking her formula so I know she isn't dehydrated. That's the Dr's concern, dehydration.
Sorry I couldn't be more help!

My son has had diarrhea so many times in the last year. The doctor really cannot do anything about it, it just needs to run it's course.
First stick to the B.R.A.T. diet Basically try to stay away from food with sugar, peas, pears, juice. Dairy is still fine. It doesn't make it worse. Try to stick with food that will bind him up like cheese, and rice.
there really isn't to much to do besides that. I know how stressful it can be when your child has this and it seems like it takes forever but it will be over within a few days.
I agree. I would just call the doc and ask what he/she thinks to be on the safe side. Little ones really don't need to get dehydrated! Good luck!
I just went through this with my 3year old. She had it for 5 days and was normal except for the runs. Doctor said keep fluids in her and let it run its corse. My neice had it for 6 days. Adults seem to only get it for a day or two. Hang in there it will all end soon.
We're kind of having the same issue, although not so much with the crankiness. My son has recently switched from all breastmilk to whole milk during the day and breastmilk at home. He didn't do so well on regular whole, so I'm trying lactose-free. He is still having diarrhea and now a diaper rash, so I'm thinking about switching to soy if it doesn't get better in the next few days. Has he recently switched milk? Although it could very well be what the other posters have said, because the viruses are going around. Good luck!
Mine has similar symptoms when she is teething. Check his gums and if they look tender, try some children's motrin or ibuprofin. Hope this helps.
