Recently I noticed that my 2 year old daughter has developed breast tissue. I'm perplexed and becoming a bit paranoid.I don't remember having "nubs" until I was 9 or 10. Has anyone else ever experienced this with their daughter at such a young age? Could it be caused by hormones in her milk?

Hi B.,
I believe you need to take her to the pediatrician. My daughter developed breast buds at age 7. I took her in and after months of investigation, we discovered that she has a thryroid condition and requires daily medication. You may need to see an endocrinologist. I doubt this has been caused by her milk. Best of luck!

Brandi, please take her to your pediatrician. We just had this happen with our 5 year old. We are still in the process of testing to find the cause but she has been diagnosed with precocious puberty. They did a blood test and a bone scan and it showed that her bones are more of a 9 year olds and one of her hormones is elevated. Like I said, we are still testing to find the cause and a plan for treatment. We too asked about the hormones in meat and milk and were told by her endocrinologist that it was not really possible. Not to scare you but there can be some pretty serious causes. please visit your doctor. I wish we would have known earlier that something was going on with our daughter.

If she is still nursing then possibly. If from cow's milk then no. I'd have her checked by your pediatrician.

I don't think its the milk. My daughter loves milk and has been drinking it non stop since she was about 1 1/2! Not to sound rude, but if your daughter is faining excess weight, fat often deposits itself in that area. If you're worried, have it checked by her dr =)

Hi B.

I guess it is something normal....my daughter is 6 months and I noticed bumps on her breast and I was worried so I made a doctors appt. and they checked her out and said its normal...its her hormones. I find that hard to believe because she is only 6 months.

Is your daughter overweight? Fat affects how hormones are metabolized and stored in the body. There are so many things out there with natural and synthetic estrogen mimics. Hormones in milk, milk products, meat, soy and soy by products are the main culprits. All of this is hidden in our packaged processed foods.

My recommendation is to only buy organic or hormone free dairy. Stay away from processed foods as much as possible (I know, sometimes life gets in the way!). Call your doctor to see if there is some underlying medical issue. This just may be normal for her.

Buy as close to the actual food product as possible. Whole grains over white flower or white rice, that sort of thing.

Good Luck!

I was recently reading an article about the youngest mother ever recorded, who was 5 years and 7 months when she delivered by ceasarian. Getting past the notion that she had been sexually abused when she was as old as only four, (the biological father was never identified) the mother reported that she started her menses at 8 months, and developed a feminine figure very young. I is posible to mature extrememly young, even if abmornal. I think the only real problem from it would be having to teach her the facts of life and feminine hygene a little early.

It's probably baby fat, some people are like that genetically.

I saw from some other posts that it could be anywhere from nothing at all to a serious medical condition. It would be best to have her pediatrician take a look but I would not stress over it. My daughter has tissue in one breast but not the other and I was sure that we needed to take drastic measures but found that it is very common. For piece of mind or to move on the issue, see her doc. Good for you for noticing the changes and being concerned. It's the best way to find out when things do go wrong but rest assured you will discover many more potential problems than actual ones. Best of luck!

I got buds before first grade. Mom asked the doc what it was and he was like, "They're breasts." Probably is precocious (sp?) puberty. Google it and ask your doc.

No, it is not normal! Start buying "organic" milk b/c regular milk has "lot's" of hormones in them and can cause early developing!!
