after 2 children and changing drs. my new gyn started me on YAZ for several reasons. first being the PMDD issues, so far for that it has worked great. balanced me out and no more crying! BUT, I was having issues with my periods before- I started skipping them out of no where, and in order to get me regualted,we opted to try yaz. Hubby has been snipped, so we arent concerned about a pregnancy, but now I ma either not starting when i should, or I wait until I start a new pill pack to start, and is it really a lite period that drags on, and then i start spotting mid pack, and not to mention there is NO, desire at all! This month I didnt have a period at all......I hear this happens to some on yaz, but I thought the whole point was to get me regulated again? if I am not gonna have a period on it, why bother to take it, I mean, I wasnt having them before so why add the hormones? I dunno, anyone have this happen?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks so much everyone- this is the update ! I called my Dr and she said that since my body had been thru so much in the last 6 months of skipping periods, and then on provera to make me have a period, then starting my on yaz, that it is going to take some time for my body to figure out exactly what it is supposed to do. She said that very light to no periods at all are normal and even to have a period when you start the next pill pack that first week even. She seems to think giving it a few more months ( I am only on month 3) that it will straighten itself out and all will be fine.
new update- I am into week 2 of this 3 month of these pills, and honestly I am ready to ditch them. I am almost 35, dont smoke, but wonder if it is my age that is making all the changes? I dunno. I am tired of not having a period when I am supposed to, having one when I am not supposed to, and having no intrest in my husband.my family seems to think that if I dont need it to prevent pregnancy then go off it and let my body do what it needs to do naturally and go from there. the Dr said I have that choice, or try another pill. although I am afraid to go off and maybe start skipping periods again, I dont like how I feel at this point on a pill.

Take your family's advice. Altering your body with chemicals, which is what ALL birth control pills are is not natural. Give your body a chance to recover itself. I also agree with the natural diet route, eliminating processed/prepared foods. Try eating raw fruits and vegetables and pure protein sources (baked/steamed chicken or alaskan salmon) at least 2 times/week. Limit carbs, eat whole grains & cut out processed and refined flours. Eat nothing with "high fructose syrups" or "yeast extracts" or "aspertame" or "dyes" (you'll be shocked at how many things this will eliminate from your diet) You will be amazed at how much more energy you will have and how good you will feel in just a few weeks. (it is a slow process purging yourself of all the food additives most of us eat on a daily basis)

I have recently been introduced to using natural herbs and switching to an all natural diet which excludes all processed foods. I have never felt better. Check out the web sites for Pure Herbs and Nature's Sunshine.

I have not taken this method, but I do have a suggestion. i have been on Depo for the past few years. From the moment I started back on it, my entire drive completely died out. This drove my fiance a bit crazy and when it was time to get my next depo, I couldn't get it because there was not enough people on staff. I asked for anything else I could start taking and they put me on Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 which is like any other pill pack except a little different. The first 3 weeks are green pills and the 4th week are brown pills. I was basically given the option of whether or not I wanted periods with these pills. You take the first 3 weeks and on the 4th week, if you DO want a period, you take the 4th week. If you do not want a period, you do not take them and you do not need to take anything else during that week. You start a new pack after the 4th week as normal. I will say that I have been on these for almost a month now. Strangely enough, my drive started coming back with a fury within the first week of starting these pills. I was never big on the idea of taking a pill every day, but I have found myself very happy with these and don't ever want to change them. I am beyond ecstatic to feel normal again (especially with the sex drive) and I really like having the choice whether or not to have a period. This might be something to ask your doctor about. Hope this helps!

If you aren't concerned about getting pregnant I would ask your doctor about Sarafem, It is what I used for PMDD.
I am totally against birthcontrol for so many health reasons.

All hormonal BC took a toll on my libido...kinda defeated the purpose, no? Anyhow, just wanted to let you know you aren't the only one. Lots of women have that reaction.

Did you try any other birth control pills before this one? I was given seasonique for mostly the same reason you were. pmdd, pms, mostly emotional reasons. I started spotting mid pack and had the most horendous period ever when I did get it. I'm told that you have to be on the pill for up to 6 months for it to do what it is supposed to. Good luck. I'm glad to hear it helped your pmdd. Mine has been particularly rough with my third.

you can have spotting the first couple of months but if your hubby is snipped I am wondering why the need for bc? 86 the hormones. Especially if you are over 35 yrs old and if you smoke. But of course discuss this with your Doctor.

i worked for an OB-GYN and it's pretty normal to have those things happen on that pill. how long have you been on it? it normally takes 3 months to regulate everything. so after that i would call your dr, or if you aren't feeling "right" than give them a call. good luck to you

Hi C....
How many months have you taken Yaz now? For me, at least, it takes a minimum of 3 months to adjust to new pills. If it has been that long you should talk to your ob/gyn about switching to another kind.

I think your urteus isn't completely releasing all of the tissue build up. You need to talk to your doctor about this and it may be time to change to a different dosage or change medicine.
Did you have hormone imbalances in the past? You didn't mention your age. That is another thing you need to take into account, unfortunately. My mother started the change in her mid-thirties. I did the same thing and having two periods a month is not fun! Plays with your emotions and physical health a lot!
As for desire, well, I found that working, raising a family, housework, financial concerns, etc., will take a lot of that out of life all on it's own with or without medication. Seems to increase desire in men and decrease it in women.

I am on YAZ and I sometimes skip my periods it seems like when I am really stressed out I will skip that month! My hubby is not snipped so I will worry more and take a test. I had some spotting in the beginning of taking it but that has gone away. It does help with my cramping before my period. I'm not sure if it helps with my PMDD but I'll keep taking it everything else made me more crazy. If you are unsure you can double check with your Dr. but this does happen to me from time to time.

I am on the Yaz and have stopped having periods at all. My doctor told me that this was not normal for all women but does happen to some. I was having horrible periods, extremely painful and heavy to the point I couldn't leave the house for 12 hours every other month. She stated that some people like to have their cycles. I am quite honestly happy without and have no symptoms like I did prior to starting it. I did spot constantly the first month, but then everything stopped. Just sharing what happened with me. Good Luck.
