I have not been on birth control for years because it just messes with me too much. So, my husband and I are usually just careful during what should be the ovulation window. We are only careful because we are not planning on another child soon. We have two, our youngest will be 4 soon, but, we would not be disappointed if I were to become pregnant right now. Its not in the plans, but, not out of the plans. My last cycle started March 6th, and, we had unprotected sex after my ovulation window, several times. Now, I am 1 wk. and 1 day late. I feel in some ways like I am going to start soon, but, in others I don't. My face usually has a few breakouts before I start, which, I have now. But, I usually get bloated, crampy, and, have sore breasts about a week before I start. I don't have bloating, crampiness, or, sore breasts. I have a bit of nausea, am very hungry, and, have indigestion (which, I have only had in my past two pregnancies). Anyway, those tests are so darn expensive, and, I really didn't want to waste my money on them if I don't have to! Do you think I should hold off a few more days and see if my period comes, or, does it sound like I might need to get a test now? What concerns me is not having any of my usual PMS symptoms except a few blemishes, and, being 1 wk. and 1 day late already! But, I don't "feel" pregnant yet. Its just by now, if my period was about to start any day, usually my breasts would be killing me!!! Instead, they are just here!!!
**Please read updates on what has happened below**
*****Update 4/13/08
Thanks, some of you really had me laughing! I took a test and it was negative, but, still no period or a sign of a period! If I do not start in a few more days I will test again and go the doc either way. I am not worried or stressed about anything, and, do take vitamins regularly. We would be excited about it for sure if we were, who wouldn't be?! I will try to update again if anything happens! Thanks again everyone. We may just start trying for one if I do start my period after all the excitement of "are we" or "are we not"!
**Noted in response to a response, I wanted to clarify that I have not been on the pill for like 6 or so years! I have always been regular as well. Only once before when I was really, really sick did my body go off sync. So, either age is setting in and adjusting, or, something else is going on. Either way, we will know soon enough and I will keep you all updated!**
******Update 4/14/08
I took another one this morning, and, it really was not clear to me either way. It looked negative, but, where the top of the "+" would have been, there were two little dots. So, I'm thinking I am, but, just not producing enough HCG to give a really clear test yet. I don't think it would have shown those dots unless it picked up some hormones, but, I could be wrong! I'm going to wait it out until this Friday, and, if no period comes I will test again. I will keep everyone updated!
*******Update 4/15/08
I couldn't wait until Friday, LOL! I took another test this morning, it was completely negative, but, still no signs of my monthly friend coming. So, I will try to wait it out now. I am actually starting to see a few changes in me that don't normally happen in my monthly cycle. We will see what happens! If I don't have it by Friday, and no clear sign, I am making a doctor's appointment for next week. The fact that my cycle is so late when it is usually so regular is a bit alarming to me if I am not pregnant.
I will keep you all updated!
*********Update 4/22/08
I got a very faint line on a test, so, I guess that means that I am! I have a doctor's appointment in the morning to see for sure, so, I will keep you posted if anything changes!
*************Update 5/6/08
It turns out that I was having some hormone problems, and, I am not pregnant after all. They put me on medication to induce a period, and, I have felt a lot better since then. I won't say that I was not disappointed, as, I was started to get a bit excited with the idea of a new little family member, but, everything turns out as it is supposed to!

Go to a local free clinical for the pregnancy test. Also, it is cheaper for a man to get "fixed" than a woman. They can get snipped that morning and be walking/doing whatever that evening. Think of no worryies/the expense of not having any more children/dealing with some type of birth control.

I just got pregnant at the end of Dec. I had sex 2 days after I thought I ovulated. I thought I was okay. Wrong. I was a few days away from my period and had NO signs of starting either. After I was 2 days late, I took a home pregnancy test. THey are not that expensive. You can buy the store brand and they work just as well. The blue line came up almost instantly. I didn't get sore breasts until I was around 6 weeks along. I think you're pregnant. Take a test. Congratulations:)

Ease your mind... the dollar store now sells pregnancy tests, for 1$. As for being one week, and one day late you should find out a pretty accurate test result.
I torture myself every month wondering. The dollar store has saved me lots of $ on pregnancy tests :)

Oh yeah I would get a test. If you are a week late there is a great chance you could be pregnant. You know wal-mart has a test that is the equate brand for only like 3.50 or so and it looks exactly like the more expensive brands when you take it out of it's packaging. I take a progestin based pill because I am nursing but periodically I take a pregnancy test because if I were to conceive I would want to stop the pill immediatley. So that is the one I use to save money. Hope that helps and best wishes! :)

Do you have health insurance? If so, and you are pregnant, you are going to have to make an appointment for the doctor anyway, why not do it now? If you are pretty regular, then you should be concerned about your missed period whether you're pregnant or something else. If you aren't going to take an at home test nor call the doctor, then I would treat your body as if you are pregnant...eat right, drink lots of water and take prenatal vitamins. If it turns out you're not, then you haven't done anything but given yourself some added (probably deserving) nutrition.
Good LUCK! I hope the results turn out the way you and your husband would like them to.

Every pregnancy is different. If you are pregnant and feeling it sooner with this one that is a normal side effect of multiple pregnancies (not to be confusued with the possibility if twins - just meaning more than one previous pregnancy). However as we age our bodies and hormones change as well so it could be that your body is just adjusting to a hormonal change of some sort, especially if you had been sick recently. As for expensive tests, you can get the inexpensive ($5.00 for two) at Walmart, it's really the only effective way to tell (barring false positives) aside from a blood test given by your doctor.

Get yourself to the Dollar store! :-) Set your mind at ease. I've never tried the ones they sell, but I have learned that there only a few manufacturers of pg tests and quite often, they are sold under different brand names and may even be the same mft as Fact Plus, etc.
Regardless, you should test accurately by now either way.
Good luck!

When we were trying for our now 1 year old daughter...I was tracking my ovulation and was over 10 days late - but kept getting negative pregnancy test results. In my mind, I thought I was pregnant all along and just kept waiting with no period instead of tracking my ovluation. I ended up getting pregnant the following month (when I was still waiting for my period from the month before.) My doctor said I must have just skipped a period...I hadn't skipped a period for over ten years. So I did waste a lot of money on pregnancy tests. I'd just wait - but keep tracking your ovulation...you might have just skipped a period and may not know where in your cycle you are. That's just what happened to me...I hope it helps!

I know every woman is different, but your symptoms sound very similar to my first (and only, so far) pregnancy. I went out and bought several pregnancy tests at the Dollar store. They do work as long as you have enough hormone to pick up (first pee of the day) and they are only a $1 !!! I had take several before it showed, and even my first blood test came back negative!! Hope this helps. ~M.

I would say to give it another week, sometimes stress, or other things play into it and delay it. What you can do is put a thermometer by your bed, and take your temp right before you wake up every morning. Write them down, and if you see a drop of ~.4, you'll be starting your period w/in a day. Your temp initially goes up the day you ovulate. the rule is after 21 days of temp rise (thermal shift), you can cosider yourself pregnant. If you notice your temp continuing to climb (.1 here,.1 there) that's something that will happen in pregnancy, also.
hope it helps

You can get tests from Dollar General for only $1. It would at least put your mind at ease.
Each pregnancy is different, so who knows. But I did want to let you know that you can get pregnant up to several days after you ovulate, so if you by chance ovulated a couple of day later then normal, you could be.
Good luck!

I've been pregnant 7 times (all of them planned)! I have had 4 live births and 3 miscarriages. My husband says that I single handedly keep the pregnancy test companies in business because if I'm a day late, I take a test. If you do decide to go and buy a test, the store brand ones (like CVS) are pretty cheap in comparison to name brand ones and are just as accurate, especially if you are as late as you are.
I will tell you that every pregnancy has had similar symptoms but all of them have also had different symptoms. I always feel like my period is about to start for about the first 3 months of pregnancy.
Of course, I would advise to just go take a test. Wondering every minute if you are pregnant or not can be tormenting. After one day of "Am I pregnant?", I can already be picking out names! If your period hasn't come in a couple of days, go buy a cheap test (or just go buy one now).

You should wait a few more days, but then try one of the new home pregnancy tests. If it is positive, go to your gynocologist and get another test there to confirm. It is sometimes hard to tell by symptoms alone if you are pregnant or not. Good luck. J. K. :)

You could be having a boy. All pregnancies are not the same and don't have the same symptoms. I know a week and a day seems like an eternity, but just wait. Start on a multivitamin and start eating cereal with folic acid in it just in case...act like you are pregnant until you find out for sure. Sometimes even if you are pregnant and the tests say early indications, some will come back with a false negative. If you really have to know...there are a lot of places that will give free pregnancy blood tests and that is a sure-fire way to know for sure. Call your doc and see if that is covered by your insurance. Good luck...and many blessings to you either way!

I think you should wait until you are two weeks late. It is always hard to tell the symptoms at the first sign of pregnancies for me they were all different. If you are pregnant and this is the third pregnancy you will have earlier feelings and signs.
I wish you lots of luck and I hope that if you are that it is a happy healthy pregnancies and if not, maybe someday you will try again.
