Hi all, My daughter is having a campout sleepover for her birthday in early. We thought it might be good to have a movie ready to watch before they all go out and go to sleep. They are 10, can't be scary, gory, would like tame language etc... A comedy would be fun and a camping or scout theme would be great! Any ideas? Thanks!

So What Happened?

So Far Troop Beverly Hills and Parent Trap seem to be at the top of the list. Thanks Riley for mentioning the caution regarding the kids parents. One of the couples has recently seperated :-(. We will have Troop Bevery Hills on hand to watch but I'm not counting on it as one of the main activites. More of a just incase we have time to fill before they head out to the tent. In the past my husband has set up his projector and we've shown movies in the backyard (using a king size white sheet hanging from the roof gutter as a screen). Lots of fun and a few people have asked what movie we will be showing so there may ben an expectation...... Thanks everyone! Now I also have a fun list to check out for ourselves. We will need to watch Parent Trap and a few if the others as a family.

As I recall, Troop Beverley Hills is also a good one.

Both are rated PG.

Troop Beverly Hills!
Sure it's dated and a little corny but it's also really funny and sweet :)

My daughter is 9. She has had sleep overs at our house.
She always plans a movie and chooses it.
Then, when the actual movie time comes... well, she and her friends ends up NOT watching the movie nor all of it.
Because, they are too busy with other activities or rather not watch it.
This has happened, every single time, my daughter has had a sleep over and also when she has had a play date.
This happened even when the movie is a good one which she and her friends wanted to watch.
I don't know, but per my daughter and her friends& sleep overs, they were all just to busy with other things, to watch a movie and sit for 2 hours.

Does your daughter.... want a movie? Is this her, idea?

Some movie Ideas:
Mr. Bean
Nancy Drew
Nim's Island

One of my all time favorite movies in The Parent Trap, the original 1960's version with Haley Mills. Both my girls like the movie too.

I thought John Candy in The Great Outdoors was funny when I was a kid but... that was a LONG time ago.

Don't know if this one would be easy to find, but the first movie that came to mind was "Poison Ivy" (the one with Michael J Fox and Nancy McKeon, not the one with Drew Barrymore - that one's scary!).

This came out in 1985. He plays a camp counselor and she plays the camp nurse. Super cute and funny. I'm pretty sure it was a "Made for TV Movie."

"Parent Trap" is a great idea. "Space Camp" would also be fun.

Troop Beverly Hills

It's an old one, so they're unlikely to have already seen it, and it's pretty cute. I loved it when I was a kid.

I can't think of any really recent movies, but some older flicks come to mind.

Earnest Goes to Camp
The Great Outdoors (John Candy)
Troop Beverly HIlls
Camp Nowhere
The Parent Trap (get the original)
Daddy Day Camp
Camp (musical)
Heavyweights
Meatballs
Camp Rock?? (I have never seen it, just taking a guess)

I haven't seen some of these for a very long time. I may be forgetting inappropriate content.

There's a movie with Robin Williams I think called "RV" . He takes his family on a hilarious adventure in a camper. Can't remember if all content is appropriate so maybe pre screen . It always surprises me the older family comedy's can have some bad language or suggestions. But I do remember it was very funny.
