Itchy Breasts While Pregnant

Hi Ladies,
I have a problem driving me crazy! With my first pregnancy I used Vitamin E Oil (specifically for pregnant women) on my breasts when they became itchy. It worked wonders and lasted all day. I am roughly two and a half months pregnant and am having the same problem. I bought the same thing I used last pregnancy but within 30 minutes my breasts are itchy again. I would really appreciate any suggestions you Ladies may have.

What can I do next?

My itching was due to stretch marks on my breasts, belly and thighs. Vitamin E, and body butter rubbed in every day helped. If you can take a bath using the Aveeno colloidal oatmeal bath every week, it feels wonderful on the skin - very soothing.

I used almond oil on my breasts and my belly. It worked great for me, and no stretch marks. It's a little messy, but it's worthy it. I used to buy mine at Henry's. Good luck!

Ice cold compresses may be your answer. I believe that anything else may hurt the baby. I had itchy places on my body also when I was pregant, but only scratched myself when I had gloves on. I know it sounds weird, but as a nurse I have seen many people get infections from scratching. I actually wore white cotton gloves (get them from someone older) while sleeping. Also I used a good moisturizing lotion on my skin while I was still wet from the shower and that really helped (got that tip from a major skin care company). If all else fails...see the dermatologist.

I used "Tummy Honey" to prevent stretchmarks on my belly during pregnancy, but it really, really helped with the "itchies." You might try that. By the way, I did not get any stretch marks, yet believed I would be prone to them since I have them on my breasts from when I developed during my teen years. Go figure. Perhaps it really was the Tummy Honey!

Sounds liek possibly Candida. I mean when people have a yeast issue, they can get itchy vaginas, ears, butts, throats - why not breats? I would try PB8 from Nutrition Now. Also, the probiotic (PB8) can help your immune system, as well as your baby's.

I would also add the oil topically, but I've found that only straight natural d-alpha tocopherol works, not synthetic vitamin E, which is dl-alpha tocopherol. Good luck.

Rather than applying oil on the outside, you may want to consider adding more healthy fats on the inside. Udo's omega 3-6-9 blend oil or another balanced blended oil in your diet will not only help your skin, hair, and joints--it will help the development of your baby's brain. Just like anything else your baby needs, he or she may be drawing the moisture and fats from you that would normally keep your skin supple. Add a tablespoon per 50 lbs of body weight to a morning Complete smoothie or use it as salad dressing.

Did you have thrush at all? I did after my first was born and I think I still do. I swear it's what makes me itch all the time. Try probiotics day and night for a few months and see if that clears it up.

Hi L.,

Congrats on your second! I am currently 31 weeks and having the same problem. I've been using Bio Oil and it seems to be working for me. I've been using it on my belly and breasts for stretch marks and even the dry spots on my face.

Good Luck!
