Itchy Scalp - Tualatin,OR

My 5 yr old daughter has been scratching her head for the past couple of weeks. I have checked for the usual, lice, dandruff, rash etc. I dont see evidence of anything. We have used Johnsons Head to Toe Body Wash since she was born. It is probably time to change. She has normal straight hair. Any suggestions for something that will make the itch go away and still keep her hair in good shape?

What can I do next?

I don't know about the itch, but the woman who cuts my son's hair (he is 4) said it is definitely time to us big kid shampoo - so we switched...now problem...just try any kid's shampoo and see how it works!

Sometimes shampoo will irritate the scalp because it's too alkaline. Try using a vinegar rinse after her shampoo to neutralize the pH. I use an old peri bottle to mix 1oz of apple cider vinegar with 7oz warm water. Then I squirt it all over my head, let it sit for 30 seconds and rinse it out. Once her hair dries, you won't smell the vinegar. And you'll be amazed at how soft and shiny it makes her hair. If you need a conditioner to help comb through, I would add a bit of cream conditioner (like Mane & Tail) to the ends of her hair. Remember: be sure to dilute the vinegar.

I itch when I use shampoo. So I started using Burt's Bees Moisturizing Shampoo. I also use Olive Oil soap for my hair and body, or Castille soap. She probably is getting dry skin. All of these keep my hair looking good, and stop me from being dried out.

My head has itched my whole life! I am allergic to sulfa drugs so I just figured one day to stop using shampoo with sulfa/sulpha - this has helped a lot! When I take my allergy meds... I never itch! Just a thought - could be allergies. Good luck!

I use komenuka bijin most of the time... I use it on my son too - what a wonderful product but it is pricy. Enjoy products are also sulfate free and also expensive! Sorry I'm not much help on any deals! Maybe the baby section since they have so many new natural products for baby. Good luck!

I beleive I saw that Aveeno now makes a shampoo. You might try that. Let us know what works. My bet would be on seasonzal alleriges. Mine scalp has been itching too like crazy, as has my grandsons. I know I have allergies, and I suspect he has too.

Good luck!

i just started using Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo..it has helped all of us so much! Just be careful not to get it in her/your eyes as I would imagine it might burn! Hope that helps!

I tend to get a tight itchy scalp and I found Tea Tree Tingle shampoo and conditioner at Trader Joes. It is wonderful! No more itchy scalp, all natural ingredients w/o the harsh lathering agents (it doesn't lather, but gets my hair clean and leaves it soft). As long as your daughter is able to keep her eyes closed while you wash it should work great.
