Hi, my baby is 5months old and lately he has been scratching his head a lot especially at night time, funny part is he doesn't scratch the top part where his cradle cap is but scratching the sides with non cradle cap. Wondering if there is any suggestions to calm him down. He has been waking every hour at night and it's so hard for us. I tried virgin olive oil and Aquaphor but doesn't seen to help, he still scratching like crazy!!
thanks

What can I do next?

Do you think he might have an ear infection? Lying down at night makes the pain worse. He may be trying to tug at his ears. If thats not it, you may try socks on his hands. Is he stratching himself and cutting his skin, or just seems itchy? I would take him to the doctor and have him checked out if the sock thing doesn't work.

We had the same problem and the Weleda brand Calendula shampoo completely healed our baby fast. The best part is this is a natural and gentle product for our little guy.

Hi TC. Most moms don't know about the toxins that are in our baby products that cause these type of skin reactions. I had no idea with my first two....and they suffered for years. Here is a great article on Hubpages that talks about it. Its worth reading. I suggest trying to switch your baby products to natural / toxic free products. He's probably just srtaching his "itchy" head and his little mind feels like he is responding but his little arms aren't making it to the dry area.. or the cradle cap is only showing there and the other area may be dry. Try a little bit of olive oil at bath time. Scratch his little head while appying it..cute little head massage.. and work out all of the flakes and such. That will remove the cradle cap and it just might heal some of the itching as well. :)

OOPS! I never pay attention. ha! I see now that you tried olive oil. sorry that worked for me...best of luck to you :)

Hi, My now 1 1/2yr old daughter had really really bad cradle cap to the point where she lost most of her hair on top of her head, and it was very itchy. Her doctor told me to use Head and Shoulders Shampoo you only need a dime size on you fingers and wash as normal. then comb through with a small tooth comb and put some vitamin E oil on his scalp. wash his hair about twice a week and his itchy scalp and his cradle cap will be gone! Good Luck!

His ears may be hurting him, or he may be getting a tooth. You can try Hyland's Teething Tablets and see if they help:

Hi there,
I have the same problem with my 4 month old. She wears socks on her hands at night time and when i put her down for a nap. She also had a terrible case of craddle cap (now is almost gone). The reason why my daughter rubs, is to deal with the pain of gas. It's basically a habit that my daughter has developed to deal with the pain. I was exclusively breast feeding and I thought it was the things I was eating. After weeks of not eating this and not eating that, she STILL had horrible gas. I started incorporating formula into her diet, and it helped a little. Now she is on straight formula, and is still having stomach pains. So, I believe that my daughter rubs her face and head out of habit. When they do it as often as your son does, it just sounds like that way. I swaddle my daughter, so the hands stay away from the head. I am up a few times a night re-swaddling her/feeding.
If you know FOR SURE that it is because he is itchy, then try 1/2% hydrocortizone (not on face, just head). See if that does anything.
have you swaddled him before?
Good luck!
