IUD Irregularity

I currently do not have health insurance and am having a hard time getting into a doctor. I have taken several HPT's and they've all come out negative. I've even taken a blood test at the local clinic and it came out negative. Sounds like I'm not pregnant, right? I started having symptoms two months ago, a few weeks after my last regular period (April 26th 2010). It started with heartburn, which I have never felt until then and continued with nausea and extreme fatigue. My body reminded me of what I felt like the last time I was pregnant with my now 6 year old daughter. A few weeks of these symptoms passed so I took a HPT and it was negative. Then May 29th I started spotting very light pink. This continued for 7 days then stopped. The symptoms remained and my belly begin to look more and more bloated (or pregnant). Since then, I have not had a regular period am still exteremly fatige, am experiencing occasional not as consistent nausea, experiencing heartburn, sideaches, occasional sharp pains in what feels llike my ovaries. I took the blood test two weeks ago which the lab said was negative. Three days ago, I thought I started my period. I had some red blood on my panties, so I placed a tampon and when I took it out only the tip was barely covered then no spotting or anything for the rest of the night. The next day I had slight orange spotting when I wiped. And of course now three days later, nothing. It will be early August when I can get seen. Could the IUD hide the HCG hormone? or are the hormones being released different now since my IUD is to be taken out in 5 months? Prior to the past three cycles, I have had normal periods on my IUD that last at least 4-6 days. Any help???If I could attach a picture, it seems like it's a no brainer. I look pregnant too. I've never gained weight in just my belly, it's usually at the love handles and glutes, I've gained 12 pounds and it's all in my bellyover the past 11 weeks.

What can I do next?

Go to planned parenthood or somewhere where you can be seen without insurance. I don't think you're pregnant; the hormone would show up with or without the IUD, but you could have something else going on in your uterus. Have an ultrasound to check for pregnancy and that your IUD is still properly placed. They may also be able to check for an ovarian cyst or fibroid tumor or any of that stuff that can happen in women's reproductive organs.

Good luck.

I think you really need to get to a doctor. Since you don't have health insurance right now you could even try a free clinic or something. When you have an IUD in you have a much higher chance of a tubal pregnancy. A little swimmer may have gotten past the blocked tube and maybe the fertilized egg could not get out of the blocked tube. Usually if you happen to get pregnant with an IUD (a very slim chance, but it happens) you have an increased risk for tubal pregnancy or that it will not be able to implant. I would get to the doctor ASAP to make sure this has not happened. I don't think you are pregnanct b/c I think the hormone would have at least shown up in the blood test. I think you need to have a doctor check you out. There are a lot of serious problems that can mimic the symptoms of pregnancy. You need to have your reproductive parts checked and also make sure your IUD is still in tack and not causing these problems. Best of luck.

You can go to planned parenthood and it is based on your income of how much you pay or you can always go to County Hospital which is Denver General down in Denver. It is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck to you!

It sounds like something going on. The IUD would most likely not mask the HCG; but sometimes HPTs can be wrong.
I would suggest seeing a doc ASAP (I know how hard this is - I don't have insurance either). And, if the pelvic pain continues or increases, or you start bleeding heavily, go to the ER. One (uncommon) risk of IUD's is that you could have an ectopic/tubal pregnancy, where the embryo implants itself outside of the uterus. When it ruptures, it is life-threatening. Some of the symptoms you describe could be that.... they could also be some kind of cyst or something more benign. But I would see a doc.

I know you don't have health insurance but it sounds like you need to have an ultrasound just to be safe. Does your state have any kind of health insurance you can get on thats free? I'm in California and for emergencies like this (to me it sounds like it can be dangerous if you don't get checked out soon) I would have the ability to go to the welfare office and get on medi-cal. You should look into what your state has to offer so you can get into an obgyn immediately. best of luck to you, I hope all turns out o.k. for you!
