JFF - Did You Have an in Utero Name for Your Baby?

On one of the threads, some people mentioned that they didn't care for in utero names. I gave both my babies in utero names - did you? What were they?

My younger son was aptly named "The Little Drummer Boy" because he kicked me from the time I could feel him until he was born. My first son was named Leedle Yawcob Strauss after a poem in a very old book that belongs to my husband's parents. I was looking through their books one day early in my pregnancy and saw it, and I was very taken with the story. I wanted to copy the poem and accompanying picture and asked a friend. She borrowed the book and at my baby shower, gave me a framed large copy that she had professionally copied - absolutely wonderful!! The poem was written by Charles F. Adams, and goes like this:

I haf von funny leedle poy. Vot gommes schust to mine knee:
Der queerest chap, der createst rogue, as efer you dit see.
He runs, und schumps, und schmashes dings, In all barts of der house:
But vot of dot? he vas mine son. Mind leedle Yawcob Strauss.
He get der measles und der mumbs Und eferyding dot's oudt:
He sbills mine glass off lager bier,Poots schuff indo mine kraut.
He fills mne pipe mit Limburg cheese. Dot vas der roughest chouse:
I'd dake do vrom no oder poy but leedle Yawcob Strauses.

Rather than write the entire poem, which I will gladly do if anyone wants it, I'll tell you that the ending goes like this:
But ven he vas ashleep in ped, so guiet as a mouse, I prays der Lord, "Dake anyding, but leaf dot Yawcob Strauss."

What can I do next?

My first was "this kid", my second was "the leech" and the third was "the parasite". I've recycled "this kid" for this last one, so far! I might come up with something different. Maybe "the moocher"! They've all just sucked all my energy right out of me!

First daughter was peanut (because the first ultrasound picture reminded me of a peanut)
Second daughter was jelly bean (because the ultrasound picture reminded me of a jellybean)

My StepFather marked first daughters due-date as Peanut Day. She was born a week later, but that day is always Peanut Day to me now.

Missouri MK - You can call this one MiniMe Moocher.

I have had friends refer to their unborn children as "the spawn"

Yes. We don't find out the sex of our babies, but we "named" the baby. The first three pregnancies were "baby Athanasius", and the last pregnancy we called the baby "baby Pio".

Before they were born, I called all my children "Whoozis," because it was definitely a step up from calling them "It."

But when I started calling my pre-born grandchildren that, my kids told me they didn't care for that name. So some have made up their own. One called her baby Elvis-or-Myrtle. He is now Ian. The current pre-born (of another child) started out being called Baby Dot (due to the ultrasound picture), graduated to Baby Grape, and is now Baby Shrimp.

But I love the poem - I'll have to look up the whole thing online!

Peanut for our son because when we first saw him, he looked like a peanut shell.
The twins were just baby A and baby B because that's what the drs called them all the time. They moved around so much for a while that I couldn't tell which one was which until we went for a sono. One was always bigger than the other.

Are you talking about actual names or references as in "I don't know if 'it's a boy or it's a girl'"?

Actual names, with my daughter, no.
She was actually 4 days old before we agreed on a name.
My second baby, my son....yes.
I was in critical care in the hospital during most of my pregnancy. When we found out he was a boy, we named him for certain. I needed that to hang onto and strangely enough, we agreed on the name.
It was kind of surprising given the difficulty the first time around.
Easy pregnacy....can't agree.
Difficult pregnancy, not so hard with the name.

That was my experience anyway.

My youngest was Raymond Jack-Ralph, because people kept asking me if he were to be named after a Grandpa, Daddy, Uncle. Plus my inlaws and my parents were driving me nuts.
My 3rd had a name by 6 months. We knew she was a she.
My 1st and 2nd were "the baby."

We didn't have one for our first daughter, but our second was Boog. It was my nickname in high school softball because there was a player years ago named Boog and played first base. We pretty much stopped calling her that once we came up with her name, but Boog is so much more fun! :)

Yes! My older child and I were going through the baby naming book and picked an odd name as a joke. I won't write it here because I don't want to offend someone who might not think it odd!

Yes! If you don't find out the gender (we didn't), you don't want to constantly say "it" or "the baby." We referred to our first as Lola. As in "Lola" by The Kinks. I heard the song on 2 different radio stations on my way to work after I took the pregnancy test. We referred to our second as "Peep" because I was due the day after Easter (she decided to come the night before Easter, so it was nice to tell everyone that Peep arrived just in time for Easter!).
I'm so glad to hear that lots of other parents had nicknames for their babies during pregnancy. Some people just don't get it and you get a lot of weird looks while you're pregnant!

I had a hard enough time choosing the right name for them after birth, let alone while in utero.

By default, yes, I had a name for each baby: "Baby #1, Baby #2, and Baby #3"
