I rinse off and put in.
My girlfriend washes all of the dishes and then puts them in the dishwasher to sanitize them.
So sink full of soaky water?
quick rinse under the faucet?
scrap off but no rinse?
just straight to the dishwasher???
I'm super curious!!!!
I generally just scrape and load. I've been having trouble with a few items, like some small icecream dishes i have, and a few other things. so i've started to just handwash those, but hubby will just leave them in assuming they will eventually get clean or disingerate if they just go through 20 loads.
The sanitzing makes me laugh, I guess because you aren't touching it and the temps are so high, it's "better" than just plain old soap and water? I'm good with not sanitizing i guess.
anyhow, just fun to see teh answers and i think alot does depend on your machine.

Yes I pre wash/ soak. especially the silerware! I tell my kids all the time the dishwasher is a sanitizer not a miracle worker!
Scrape and load. My husband rinses and it really annoys me. Why did we spend money on a new, energy efficient dishwasher if he is going to waste water rinsing the dishes first?
Scrape off large pieces of food, and then straight to the dishwasher. A good dishwasher has a disposal feature in it, so you don't have to wash it before you wash it.
Our dishwasher is nothing fancy, just a Kenmore, but we don't have to rinse before washing. Guess my dishwasher is a miracle worker. :)
We scrape, rinse and scrub them if something doesn't rinse off easily.
I've ready many articles, that says it's actually bad to wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Works for me! I hate doing dishes. I do make sure there is not a bunch of food stuck to the plate.
When our dishwasher was doing a bad job, we had a service call.
The guy had 30+ years repairing appliances.
He told us we were doing 2 things wrong::
Rinsing and using gel or liquid detergent.
So now we scrape and use powder.
No problems.
Rinse and scrape, how about you? =)
I miss my dishwasher!!!
When I had one: Just scrape and load up.
((My dishwasher is broken, not because of this, but because the heat element went out and my mechanically DISinclined exhusband decided to save $80 and 'fix' it. In the process completely destroying it. No cash to replace it. For. The. Last. 3. Years.))
Straight into the dishwasher. That's why a dishwasher with a hard food grinder is a minimum requirement in our house.
Scrape and load. Our dishwasher manual says not to rinse, the detergent needs something to cling on to in order to work effectively. Plus, it just wastes water to rinse and I live in drought country :)
All depends if I am running it sooner or later. If the dishes are going to sit, then I scrap then rinse then load. If running soon then I just scrap and load.
What do you do?
I have a dishwasher and have never used it in the apartment. However, LOL I will use the dishwasher at other people's houses! I prefer to only wash my dishes and pots by hand. I just usually put my plate in the sink, turn on the water and then wash it. If its something that's had sauce or butter/oil in it, then sometimes I let it soak in hot water with a little soap. I use a brillo pad on pans when needed and just a washcloth on the dishes and everything else. I did buy some scrubber things (IDK what they are called but I got them from Staples) and they work well even on the dishes and they don't scratch. I use to be a nanny at someones house and they would leave a sink full of water and soap and let the dishes stay in there. That kind of grossed me out seeing how the water turned cold after a wild and all that dirt was just sitting the water!!!!! When I went to culinary arts college; we had 3 or 4 sinks. There was an entire long, long, very long cleaning process even just for dishes and wine glasses. That wasn't fun! Oh and I let my dishes "air-dry"...:)
My FIL washes, scrubs, DRIES!! the dishes, then puts them into the dishwasher on high temp. You would think he has too much time on his hands, but no, at 75 he works 2 jobs, and does most of the housework and keeps up with 10 acres of land.
Me, I scrape and in they go. Drives him bonkers.
I don't have a dishwasher now... So when I do dishes, I scrape any big debris into the trash, and give it a quick rinse. Then I wash.
When I DID have the dishwasher, I used one of those sponge-wand things... (you know, sponge scrubber on a tube that you fill with soap...) and get the big stuff. If there was something that was more prone to sticking, or that was pretty stuck on, I would give it a decent scrub.
If I wanted to take the time to hand-wash dishes, I wouldn't have installed a dishwasher.
Yeap, I prewash the dishes in hot soapy water before loading them into the dishwasher =)
Scrape off, rinse off, and into the beautiful miracle that is a dishwasher!
I do a quick rinse and then into the dishwasher they go!
I rinse and scrape. Not so they are clean but so they don't have food on them. If I let hubby load the dishwasher i have to clean chunks of food out of it the next morning (EWWWW).
Depends on the dishwasher. Some of the older ones you needs to rinse and scrape and the higher quality new ones you can just scrape.
We do not have an electric dishwasher!
But I do a lot of special events in different clients homes.. I usually rinse and scrape at their homes, unless they tell me, "just throw them in there, they will be fine."
I have one client with 2 dishwashers in her kitchen, a small one downstairs in the children's area and one in the outdoor kitchen by the pool.. . It is all very handy when there is a huge party at her home.
We have a very new dishwasher with awesome reviews from consumer reports. I still feel the need to wash every single dish before I load it. It is very confusing for my husband to know the difference. I hate that I do this but I like things extra clean.
