JFF- Favorite Pop Song to Play for Your Kids

Since we're getting another large dump of snow, we've spent the morning dancing and listen to music. At one point hubby had on "groove is in the heart-" I immediately got my daughter from their room to hear it, since she loves things like that.

Then Hubby put on his favorite "pop song:" California uber Alles. I said " bitchen' Camaro"

A while later, my actual favorite pop song came on: birthday by the sugarcubes. I cry every time I hear it now, now that having kids broke me :-)

So what's your favorite "pop song" you have played or want to play for your kids?

What can I do next?

I don't have a favorite song, but The Beatles were by far my favorite music to play and share with my kids. They LOVED The Beatles, Lucy in the Sky, Revolution, Yellow Submarine, Rocky Raccoon, pretty much all of it.
I also played a lot of 80's pop/new wave and plenty of show tunes!

For me, it's not so much "pop" as it is rock...

We love Queen - our boys know most Queen songs...I personally love "Fat Bottomed Girls" and "Bohemian Rhapsody"

Queensryche, Motley Crue, Journey (more pop than Rock), REO Speedwagon...many of the bands from the 80s!!!

We also love some bands from the 60's - Beatles, Rolling Stones...my kids think "Yellow Submarine" is hilarious and wished we lived in a yellow submarine!!

My kids like "PitBull" - especially "TIMBER"

Enjoy the snow! We're getting freezing rain here! Wish it was snow!!

Stay safe!!

It's an old one but when it pops into my head it won't leave for a long while.

Little Willie by The Sweet

Our son likes it too!
We've sort of explored the 70's and early 80's and there is a lot of good music.
ABBA had some good songs.
A really old one but fun - Beep Beep - The Little Nash Rambler

We like Dr Demento and have found many odd songs to enjoy!
Guess many of them do not qualify as 'pop music' but we don't care.

I'm desperately trying to get them to listen to anything pre-2010. When they were little and had no clue, I used to put on Steely Dan, Beatles, a lot of 80s and 90s stuff, just stuff I loved growing up.

Now, my girls think anything older than the last couple of years is "sooooo oooooolllld!!!!! Chaaaange iiiit!!!" My rule in the car is, if an "old" song comes on, in order for me to change the radio station, they have to tell me who's singing it, or listen to the whole song. They've gotten really good at "Journey!" "Aerosmith!" "U2!", but still have a hard time recognizing most songs. I keep telling them that liking current top 40 stuff and having a real appreciation for music (all genres, all decades) are two completely different things. Recently, they've gotten "Metallica", "Pearl Jam", "Prince" and "Bruce Springsteen" correct. We haven't yet ventured farther back than the 80s. Baby steps.

*sigh* Kills me that "Green Day" is considered "old". Makes me feel ancient.

My daughter grew up on classic rock and show tunes. At five, she could sing pretty much anything by Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Meatloaf, Warren Zevon, or Andrew Lloyd Weber.

My kids all have their own preferences for pop songs.

My oldest (7) loves Taylor Swift's "Never getting back together" even though he hadn't even heard it performed by Swift-just what he overheard his classmate singing.

My 4 year old loves The Beatles "Hello, Goodbye," which perfectly fits his quite contrary personality.

My 2 yr old loves Queen's "Another one bites the dust" and "Bicycle" and Whitney Houston's "I will always love you." I have a really sweet video of him singing along with it, about 2 beats behind Whitney, at the top of his sweet little lungs, while swaying to the music.

I love all of those songs that I mentioned, but especially The Beatles--pretty much anything off their Anthology makes me happy to sing with them.

I also like to sing Shaggy's "Angel" song to my baby, substituting his name for "Shorty."

Lately, my 7 yo has been into acid jazz- The Brand New Heavies, Boogaloo Joe Jones, etc. Something "smooth and jazzy" as he said... (he's so funny). He likes Steely Dan, also. We recently went through a Beatles phase. He also actually likes Pink Floyd (I love that kid). Jane's Addiction. He does like some newer pop- Bruno Mars, esp.
My 3 yo likes a hip-hop beat and lately seems wants to hear TLC after I listened to their "20" (greatest hits) album. She is hilarious doing her hip-hop dancing (self taught, of course).
Since I'm classically trained, we do listen to classical music some too. My kids and I like waltzing to Tchaikovsky- We love the Nutcracker Suite. :)
