JFF - Is There Any Food or Drink That You Prefer to Make Yourself?

So my stuff is:

PB&J (it has to be my exact consistency of both PB & J)
toast (butter or preserves have to be spread to the edge of all sides)
Also pouring milk into my cereal has become an exact science. :-)

I am not saying I would refuse these things if someone had kindly made them for me and I would thank them most graciously but I do prefer to make them myself. Oh and I also prefer to pour my own drinks if I am at someones party.

What can I do next?

fruit smoothies. any time i buy one anywhere else i end up thinking 'mine are cheaper and wayyyyyyy better.'
twice-baked potatoes. mine are dizzyingly decadent so i can't indulge in them very often. but seriously. nobody makes 'em anywhere near as good as i.
giggling at how OCD some of us are!

Lemonade. no powders or mixes. I like to use the pre-squeezed lemon juice (REAL) and sugar and water. I'll add strawberries sometimes or limes or more real lemons. the country time brand doesn't hold a candle to it!

Scrambled eggs. People do it all kinds of ways.....someone put vanilla in my egg once. Some people don't put milk (I think there MUST be a splash of milk), there's all kinds of ways. Weirdly fluffy or dry like you get at ihop or fastfood places? I'm scared of it and won't eat it. I'm funny about my eggs. And I don't want "boring" eggs unless I'm having a sandwich, when I'm thinking about my grandma. Otherwise, I want milk, shredded cheddar cheese, jalepenos, onions, tomatoes, bellpeppers, a couple shakes of LA hot sauce, and some potatoes or corn tortillas to put them on.
Bacon. Some people have it so stiff and over cooked that I don't think it's good for anything but crumbling up in a baked potato. Yuck. But then others do it where it's all limp and I'm thinking "is this raw?"---hard to find someone to do it "just right" so I do it myself.
Fuzzy Navels: my favorite drink. But for some reason, it's very rare to get one served that is as good as I want. I make them and am the designated bartender if we have friends over.
As Jo mentioned, Nachos. I don't order nachos anywhere because I want it "my" way, in the oven, with the right "ratio" of bean and all that. I don't want them sparce, I don't want them sloppy.
I didn't know until this post that I was picky. What the heck?

I'm a tea drinker. So I prefer to make my hot Earl Grey myself.
I've gotta steep it myself, perfect amount of time, etc.
I have the measurements for the hot water/Stevia/steep time then just a splash of cold water to cool it to the perfect temp down to a science.

As for what I prefer others TO make: coffee. I've never brewed a pot of coffee in my life! (Never drank a cup either!)

I have to make my own ice water. I hate the taste of ice cubes from the freezer, so I have to rinse them off. It's so weird. If someone else gives me an ice water I can usually taste thet "freezer burn" frost layer on the ice, and I hate it!
Luckily my husband puts up with this and knows to rinse my ice cubes first if he makes me an ice water or a cocktail ;)

I make a lot of things myself...I make my own mixture of green tea and regular tea with lemon and stevia sweetener and I also add seltzer for carbonation. It's a healthier alternative to diet soda.

I also make my own protein bars...much less expensive

I make my own protein smoothies with whey protein

My morning tea...Boil fresh water, I place 3 tea bags in one larger size tea pot: 2 English Breakfast, 1 Green Tea. Steep for 3 minutes, poor into a very large mug with organic honey and a very huge pour of 2% milk. I drink 2 of these every morning.

My husband has tried many times to make my tea and I keep telling him that I enjoy the ritual and he can do it when I'm an invalid.

Grilled Cheese sandwiches! You have to evenly spread the butter to the outside edges of the bread, and it has to be browned just right! lol

Coffee!!! I have an old one-cup coffee maker (not one of those fancy schmancy things) and I have to get the amount of coffee just right or it's just not a good cup of coffee. Once in a blue moon if I'm not feeling well, my daughter will make me a cup of coffee - I'll drink it because I appreciate the effort but she still hasn't gotten it just right.

As for most anything else, I guess because I've made about a billion breakfasts, lunches and dinners, if someone's willing to make me ANYTHING to eat, I'd be like you and graciously accept it!!

As for being out at a party or something, I would prefer to fix my own plate because usually if say my husband fixes me a plate, he piles on way too much food. You'd think after 20 years of marriage he'd notice I don't eat that much, but NOPE, not yet!!!

Cute question!!

Nachos and they must be made in the oven. There are several other things. The only person I trust to do it right is my husband, he is also a perfectionist and knows perfection is in the eye of the person eating. :)

Margaritas (on the rocks only, fresh squeezed lime and strong), steak (seasoning is key as is the right doneness) and sandwiches (the mayo needs to reach the edges and it goes on the cheese/lettuce side; the spicy/dijon mustard needs to reach the edges and it goes on the bottom/meat side). Otherwise, it is a resounding 'thanks for making that for me' while I rest on my laurels.

Pizza - unless it's from a really great pizza place. The "regular" delivery pizza is just not my favorite. I'd rather put in the time to make my own.

I am the same as you when it comes to PB&J. But my biggest food that I have to make myself is guacamole. I haven't found a restaurant or person that makes it as good as I think I do. :)

Lasagna. No restaraunt makes it the way I like it. I like sliced Italian sausage, and mushrooms, and chopped fresh herbs mixed into the ricotta and mozz mixture.

Spicy Shrimp Lo-mein. I like the shrimp sautted in sri racha, garlic, and ginger. I've never found any place that does that. And I like julienned vegetables in my lo-mein. Some places do, but most don't.

Convenience store coffee. I want half Mocha Alert Cappucino, the other half WATT UP or other extra caffeine coffe. Then add 1 pump each of hazelnut and caramel syrup. Or maybe choclate and caramel. I'd always rather do that one, so I don't end up with a cup of nasty.

Pico de gallo. I like it fresh. The veggies still crispy. Add salt, pepper, and garlic, lots of cilantro. Store bought or at a restaraunt and it's just soggy tomatoes and onions with a few little slimy cilantro leaves.

Sandwiches and deviled eggs (not that I eat them too often). Everyone puts relish in their deviled eggs and I just HATE pickles!!! Also, people put WAY WAY WAY too much mayo on sandwiches even when you tell them just to put a little. At this point, I've given up - when I go to a sub shop or something I just tell them to hold the mayo! I'd rather eat a dry sandwich or go with mustard then have that disgusting squish of mayo - makes me gag just thinking about it! Yes, I'm weird!

Macaroni and cheese. My son, for some reason will only eat it if I make it. I have to admit, its good.
Sweet potatoe Casserole . It's a family recipe, and I won't eat anyone else's. ESPECIALLY if they call it that by just sprinkling marshmallows on top. Gross.
Iced Tea. It has to be the way my mom/I make it, and it has to be from Luzianne tea bags. Not Lipton.
That's about it. I love it when anyone else, other then myself cooks. It's such a treat!
