JFF: Location on Facebook?

What's going on with facebook? People will post where they are at... such as E.-- at home. E.-- at (work location) E.-- at Red Lobster.

I don't post where I am on my fb. To me, I think that's just plain stupid. So many people accept people on the fb (myself included) that are more acquaintances than close friends. Is there anyone who can seriously 100% trust ALL their friends? To me, saying where you are is like saying, Hey! I'm not home!! This would be a GREAT time to rob me!

This is just my opinion, so I'm not bashing anyone who enjoys this feature, I just think it's not the smartest/safest feature they've come up with. So, to put in a question... do any of you Mamas use it? Do you trust everyone? :-)

I don't use the feature, but I see a lot of people who do :-)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't need a complete play by play of people's day! I more post if I had a great day or something unusual happened or my son did something funny or cute. I had to laugh about the poster who said that it's the same as putting a sign in your yard when you're on vacation stating you're gone! Too funny!!! Loved hearing from you Mamas and I also agree that as terribly stupid as FB can be I don't see myself cancelling my account. :-)

This is an App from their cell phone that does this.. Some people like this for their teenagers, so they can keep up with them.. They had to sign up for this to appear.

For Parents that want this app on their children but do not want anyone else to get that info, they can pay a monthly fee for the service. It would be good for a new driver..

I think it is a little too much info. I do not want everyone to know where I am all of the time.

I agree with you. I don't use it. I also think it is someone narcissistic. Really. Who cares if you are at Red Lobster, etc? LOL I get enough info in my feed. I don't need worthless posts like that. Now, if you have a funny story to tell about your visit at Red Lobster, I'm all eyes. :) I'd love to read it.

I don't like that feature, honestly. I don't really care where people are, nor do I think people care where I am. I don't need everyone knowing my business. Come to think of it, most of the things I see on FB annoy me. I can't quit you, FB... you seductress!!

I don't do it because of possibly getting robbed. although if someone robbed me they'd probably turn around and leave as they are snickering under there breath. I still have those 27" TVS with the big box on the back. Our computers are not great. Most of my furniture and stuff is hand me downs. I don't have anything that anybody could possibly want.

I don't trust anyone.

It would be hard for people to rob me....I live 7 hours away from 98% of the people on my FB.
All that aside, I just think it's annoying.
"Sally is with "Mary Anne" and has checked in at "the Cheesecake Factory." Good for you...I hope you gain a pound from the cheesecake for that stupid post. Why can't they just say "Had a good time with Mary Anne at the Cheesecake Factory?"
Ugh I also see several posts about them checking in at "home in my comfy bed".....really....everyone needs to know that?

It is ridiculous to have a feature like that. What's the point?

Just as silly is when people write things like, "I am sitting here at McDonald's watching the kids play!" Um, okay?!

Nope, don't use that option, and I also have my settings set so that no one else can post my location using my full name unless I approve the tag. I mean really, what happened to privacy anyhow.

I don't. I feel that if you need to know where I am or where I will be, you already know. I also don't post that I'm on vacation or when exactly I'm going on any out of town trip. We've also told the kids to disable it and not allow anyone else to check them in anywhere.

It's not just my friends. It's friends who mention it to their friends.

I only have 58 friends on facebook...something like 40 of them are relatives (uncles, aunts, cousins, brothers, nieces and nephews). I don't accept friend requests from people that I don't consider a friend. I don't even do it if they are an acquaintance. I rarely post where I am, although I have friends that do (shopping at QFC! Who cares?) and I think it's a little wierd too. Isn't that what people do on twitter?

I agree. People should not give a blow by blow account of their life. It is not a safe thing to do. I have a face book account and don't really do much of anything like that on it. I also only invite certain people. I did not even put a real b-day just to be safe. I know quite a few people who feel this way.

I don't use that feature. I'm against it but not necessarily for the safety point you brought up. I think it's dumb because i really don't care where everyone is at every moment. I'm already bombarded with people who update their status every 5 minutes about what they're doing. Ugh, about to delete facebook anymore...

I think it pretty silly myself. I know some friends use it if they are out on the town so others can meet up them. What gets me is the kids that use it! I know some of ( alot actually) of the mom's don't go through thier kids FB like I do and who knows who they have added as friends then to say where they are... not the wisest choice!!

It's a FB Mobile feature. Some of my friends use it, some don't. Just depends on the preference.
I agree with what you're saying about the safety thing. Kind of like putting a sign in the yard saying "see ya when we get back from vacation!" LOL

We were out of town, and a relative put my location, so it was easy to see were were gone... so just anybody knew that we were not at home for the weekend. Some people are just dolts. I would never publicly out a person's location, but some people just have no respect for other's very limited privacy.

I don't do it--I might do it as a past tense...Katie WAS at The Claim Jumper...but really only if it is a location that my friends and I have a common bond/strong memories with

What bothers me the most is when OTHER people check me or my hubby into various locations.
