JFF -Was Your Sonographer Right or Wrong About the Baby's Sex?

Updated on May 18, 2012

I had my amnio yesterday (no problems with it :) ) and the sonographer said... it's a boy! I will wait until I get that confirmed by the amnio results to tell my daughter, but have let my family know.

So - how many of you have gotten the wrong info? And any funny stories about what happened when you found out?

Have a great day!!

What can I do next?

Both times they were correct. Apparently my girl wasn't modest hehe , showed everything to the sonographer :). I had a late sono with my son and they said boy and yup!

Well, I asked not to find out the gender of either of my children however when my daughter was born my doctor said 'wow, I thought it was going to be another boy!'

Right all 3 times. First 2 were girls. 3rd was a boy. I was super nervous they were wrong about #3 because I wanted a boy so badly, I didn't want to get my hopes up... but she promised....and worked out great :-)

Hi J.-

My eldest was born in germany...and they did a sono on every visit. Every tech kept telling me it was a girl. They were building a new PX complex...and baby clothes were tremendously cheap. I smuggled a COMPLETE little girls wardrobe in from newborn to 4t...(my now ex did NOT want to know the sex).

HE ended up being an emergency c section...and we have (on video) footage of me coming out of anesthesia saying "He can't be a boy!! I have no clothes!"

And it was true...all different colour clothing - ALL distinctively 'girly'...

I never trusted a sonogram after that. I went on to have three daughters...and not ONE of them is named 'courtney'. My eldest son will ALWAYS be courtney to me!

LOL

Best Luck!

Mine were all right. My mom and aunt kept trying to say that they couldn't be right because when THEY were pregnant....I tried to tell them the sonograms are a million times different nowadays, but they wouldn't listen. Until I sent them the in color, 3D sonogram that was VERY clearly a boy. (My first actually turned his rear and opened his legs wide like "See?!"). The doctor said "Well, there's a picture for the prom date", which was kind of funny.

For my second son: I was nervous about some needle thing. I think they were going to take blood? I can't remember. But I had been in an ER before this pregancy where there were just curtains separating people and you could totally hear everything going on, and there was a little old man they were trying to stick, and his veins kept rolling and they were digging around in there. It was AWFUL. 3 people tried, and finally the doctor himself came in to do it. It made my stomach hurt, and I was praying for him, it was awful. So now I was stressed out about the needle, told my husband the nurse BETTER NOT dig around in my arm. Well, on my right, my obgyn was doing the sonogram, and to my left the nurse is getting ready to stick me and take my blood or whatever. I saw the songoram and was talking to the doctor, I saw my baby's beautiful little head, nose, and arm. Then he was messing around and there was nothing but fuzzy blurs so I looked away and was watching the nurse. I held my breath, closed my eyes, she inserted the needle and nothing hurt. I let out my breath, looked at the nurse, and said to her "wow, that was a nice little prick!" (in that I didn't feel a thing). There was a gasp and I looked over to the right and Jeremy and the doctor were looking at me funny. I looked at the screen, and they'd just started showing the view to let me know we were having another boy...they thought I was commenting on that, instead of the needle prick I'd just received. I was so embarrassed I couldn't even explain well. I just turned red and said "I meant her" and just sat there silently, and everyone else started laughing. But I was happy to know I was having another boy.

The only wrong guess that I know off was my best friend. Her mom was told she was having a boy, but I am sure that was MUCH less reliable because that was 27 years ago.

They were right with my son, but we have to wait until July to know for sure about my daughter!

As for funny stories, during my ultrasound for this pregnancy, my 5 year old son insisted on sitting on Dad's lap, and holding my hand. When the lady said, "Yep, those are definately girl parts!" he immediately dropped my hand, crossed his arms over his chest, and said petulantly, "But I wanted a baby brother!" I reminded him that only God gets to choose, and luckily he has come around to liking the idea of a baby sister. It helps that so many of his friends at day care have little sisters, and he gets to see how they interact!

My sonogram was correct (but I also waited for the amnio to be sure).
We have a sonogram picture and I swear it looks like he's sitting on the camera lens and there he is in all his glory - no doubt at all that he was a boy.

Doctor said boy, then sonographer said boy, then the other sonographer said boy. It was a boy! So no suprrises here! When doctor initially said boy, I had to sign something that said I understood that not all readings are 100% correct, blah blah. After the reading, doctor was in the hall as was my husband. Doc told husband "We're not supposed to say we're 100% sure, but I am 100% sure it is a boy. Congratulations."

My experience was awful and embarrassing but correct. I went in for my 20 week sono to find out what I was having, and my husband was deployed so thought it would be nice to invite my MIL.. Wrong! My mother and sister came as well. It turned out to be a boy like we thought which was great. What was NOT great was while the technician was checking his arms, legs to make sure he was healthy my MIL was so intent on seeing his "extra parts" that she kept shouting out is that it? *sigh* really?? Anyways, so the technician said she was getting to it. And then a picture of my son's bottom came up and my MIL shouts out "oh my goodness is that his butt hole??!" WOW seriously??? Have a little decorum!! Even the technician was embarrassed. It was awful, like is that necessary? Everyone just stared at her. She kept doing this and finally when we did see "extra parts" she wouldn't keep quiet about that either and wanted to tell everyone.
She called up his father immediately and told him. Even though I told her it was our news to announce. Didnt matter. Ugh. I would have liked to tell my husband first.

So yeah that was my wonderful experience finding out the sex of my first child. You try to be nice right? Never ever again!! :/

I worked with 2 seperate people that were both told it was a boy and both ended having girls....

I found out with my first 2 and they were correct on them, but my 3rd we waited. Everyone told me I was having a boy for my 3rd and all the old wives tales pointed to being a boy too - but she came out a beautiful little girl.

Congrats on your boy!

Correct both times - a boy and girl. But I also knew what I was having before they told me, weirdly enough.

Correct everytime. This time I chose not to find out, my husband did however. At my last doctors appointment(I'm 28 weeks today!) he was having a hard time finding the heartbeat and kept saying "Where did she go?" over and over. I immediately told my husband that I knew we were having a girl and had known it all along and proceeded to tell him what the doctor had said. He gets this horrified look on his face and says "They said it was a BOY!!!! Do you know how much stuff I've bought for him???" He showed me the ultrasound where it says "boy parts" on the top and I can't tell!!! Lol. So I guess we still don't know:)

correct all 3 times. They told me with both my girls that there was a possibility it was a boy. They can only be 100% sure of the sex if it is clearly a boy. Otherwise it could be hiding. :)

I found out at 13 weeks, we didn't know we were going to find out that early so I'd invited my MIL to come along. The sonographer didn't ask if we wanted to know, just said "looks like a boy!". Looking back, I am bummed my hubby wasn't there so we could find out together but it was nice that my MIL got to be there (she only has sons, so she hasn't got to do the whole US thing before). Plus I got to be the one to tell my DH what we were having, which was fun. Next time I'll ask them for a bit of warning though if they are going to bust out with the gender unexpectedly!

One of my twins was very cooperative. She was a she from the get-go. She was always in a different possition so it was verified many times. Her sister, on the other hand, was always balled up at the bottom of me and the one time we could have seen, little sister was spread out with her foot in the way of sisters "parts". I wanted to paint large flowers and fairies all over their room if it was two girls, but waited. We didn't know what she was until she entered the world. Forever glad i have two very different girls!
