JFF: What GOOD News Have You Heard Lately?

Updated on August 31, 2015

The board has slowed, we have all noticed it. Maybe it's the trolls, maybe it's summer, maybe because school is starting - who knows!! We all know that watching the news is depressing - and let's be honest - some of the questions are depressing. My heart breaks for some of the people and the situations they are in. Especially since many of us have been on here for YEARS (Late 2007 for me when it was Mama Source) and are friends outside this board...

News is just horrible - so tired of hearing about a girl telling her boyfriend to commit suicide, North and South Korea exchanging fire, DOW Jones dropping by hundreds of points - you know what I mean, right?

SSSOOOO WHAT GOOD NEWS do have to share??

My youngest son is in ALL HONORS this year!! YAHOO!!!

I got to spend a month with my dad this summer!! My kids enjoyed their time with their Granddad!

I love my job!! I'm happily married! It will be 18 years in October and yeah - he drives me nuts sometimes - but it's still good!!

I'm sure I can think of more - but what good news do you have?? There's GOT to be funny things, happy things - good things to report - right???

What can I do next?

I have a new grand baby, three weeks old next week. Her name is Jade, 5 lbs. 18 inches, big blue eyes and a head full of dark hair. Yes, she is tiny but strong and no issues.

My daughter got married July 2014 and moved to Texas in August 2014; together they have 5 kids. My daughter managed to work full time, go to school online full time, manage 5 kids, over 10 pets and graduated with an Associates Degree GPA 3.4. His kids had difficulty in school 2013-2014 with one having to repeat his grade. This year all kids had almost straight A's on their report cards and passed with flying colors.

Verdict after the first week of school: My LO loves kindergarten :)

Someone on this site told me about AdBlock, which I installed for Chrome, and it makes all my web browsing - and especially this site- so much easier to navigate!

My parents, who have had their share of health problems in the past, had a great summer health-wise, and we did a lot with them.

I get sick of the news and just tune it out. Everything is so sensationalized and biased.

I get sick of hearing about the Duggars and Kartrashians so I have pretty much tuned out my vice of People and my weekly magazines are piling up because I hate all the coverage those families get. I hate to see young girls trying to be like the Kartrashian girls and I feel so badly for the children in the Duggar house who are so sheltered and over protected. It seems as though they are some sort of cult.

My good news is that I have met some wonderful moms and friends on this site since it was Mamasource. There are good people out there in the world and some I am proud to call my friend.

NYE will be our 27th anniversary.. of course it has not been a bed of roses all the way but we have managed to overcome a lot of obstacles such as both having really messed up families and upbringing. We've found that we only have each other and our daughter of course.

My happy time right now is planning a month long trip for my daughter and her BFF to tour Europe next May/June. They are SO excited. We have some family in Oundle and they will make that home their home base while visiting .

I love my job and I work 24/7 with my hubby. It is surprising that we haven't killed each other by now, LOL. We run our company from our home and have warehouses in Dallas and Houston. I office downstairs and he offices upstairs and that helps a lot. It helps that he is the negotiator and does the travel while I hold down the fort at home and manage all the books. We are in the works of an expansion and reviewing contracts which could prove to be very successful when we sign off soon.

I am proud of my hubby because he works so hard, has such a good work ethic and has helped mold our daughter into a young businesswoman.

Have a great day.. I am off to housework today!

Love this thread! My job is really, really great and I have an awesome baby-sitter who made this summer the best one ever for my younger boys after I switched to being in the office full-time. She will be available for the fall so far, and there are surprisingly few schedule conflicts for my kids with 3 playing hockey and 1 of those 3 playing on two hockey teams plus football. Oy!
My oldest son got his license and has a reliable car and so far, so good with him driving. And the weather? Can't beat it - it's been warm and dry here all summer long...a nice treat after that blockbuster winter! My kids, parents, and in-laws are all healthy and well, and that's what matters most at the end of the day. There's a lot of stress going on as well, but I count my blessings. Especially with teenagers,. I feel that every day that I end the day with no one pregnant, drinking, on drugs, having a mental health crisis, injured or in trouble with the law is a good one. I have two friends whose kids have been hospitalized for mental health issues this summer and one whose son was hospitalized for a broken leg that had a dangerous side effect (compartment syndrome). It can all change in the blink of an eye...I savor the days of relative peace when they're here.

We recently(in the past year)made a job transfer and just found out at the old location the gov't downsized and most of my husband's coworkers were laid off, though were able to find other jobs within other industries due to their military service. Counting our luck for that one, as we're civilian and may not have been as lucky.

Our son who just underwent bilateral achilles tendon surgery is doing great has returned to 3rd grade after a week long hiatus in a wheelchair and we receive nothing but positive reports from his teacher!

Our 11 year old is in her 1st year of middle school is adapting quite well, maintaining her grades and has taken on color guard as a class + extra curricular.

Thanks for letting me share some of the happy news in our world.

My DD got one of the teachers we were hoping for this year. We are very happy about that.

While I miss the cat that died this time last year, we have been able to open our home to a new cat. He was probably dumped and last Christmas a rescuer helped him find us. He's very sweet, and now he is also happy and HEALTHY. It makes me happy to have been able to offer him a home.

Awesome question, high fives to W. W. and everyone who responded. Love the positive energy. Even though we lost my beloved dad suddenly/unexpectedly and tragically, the circumstances were a blessing and he's at peace now. Oldest child got straight As last year. We had an awesome family vacation, finally, after 10 long years. Celebrated 20 years of marriage. Youngest is in school full time now, so I breathe a huge sigh of relief. The future is unpredictable, but the present is worth appreciating. Day by day. Baby steps. Faith. =)

My son who has been seriously ill for a year seems to be healthy and continues to improve. His condition could worsen, but right now I have the son I have been missing for a year. He is happy and energetic and went on his first "unofficial" date.

My other son who has suffered horrible migraines his now almost migraine free after going gluten-free. Now he loves school and can go to swim practice. He is so much happier.

I am leading a big project of my college on the theme of forgiveness and this week I did my first presentation. It went well and several people were very moved and want to participate. I love my job and I believe in the work I do.

My marriage is strong and I love my husband. He is brilliant and funny and a wonderful father.

Great question.

TS Erika is downgraded to a mass of junk. Probably makes the meteorologists angry b/c there isn't much left to sensationalize, but hey...

It's still good news for a lot of people. We'll still get a lot of rain, probably. Which is nothing new for this time of year. Our last two football games (including last night's) were cancelled due to weather (lightning). Hopefully, the weather will improve for Friday nights, soon. I'm tired of paying for tickets and only getting to see half of a game (and not even getting to see my kid and the band perform at halftime). But we won. :)

My son (age 27) had to borrow my car for a couple of days while his was in the shop for repairs, and he returned it AFTER PUTTING GAS IN IT! And he ran it through the car wash!

Plus, the sound studio that he works for as an audio engineer has a contract with a national company to provide sound engineering, staging, technical set up, etc for an event that the company sponsors that takes place around 6 or 7 times a year, in various locations around the country. My son has been working hard and hoping to be selected for the team that travels to those locations but you really have to earn that spot. And guess where he is right now? About a thousand miles away, on that event! He made the team! He's excited. I'm proud. He'll be back in 10 days. It's really hard work but well worth it. He's still getting established as a sound technician and engineer - it takes awhile, and he's still pretty broke, (graduated from college about 4 years ago, then had to intern for a year and then it took about a year to get hired by this studio), but he loves what he does and he's really dedicated.

Went to opening day at the Maryland Renaissance Festival yesterday!
It was great! There were so many wonderful acts we never saw before and lots of old favorites as well. The weather was perfect - sunny but not too hot and a good breeze made walking around the village just so pleasant.
Going home today via Bay Bridge tunnel (I just can't stand I95 between DC and Richmond anymore). It should be a pleasant drive through the eastern shore.

As far as bad news goes - there's always something going on.
I'm dreading all the election year hype.
(Major pet peeve of mine - other countries get this done in 6 to 8 WEEKS and spend SO MUCH LESS money campaigning while we get this multi million/billion dollar dog and pony show every 4 years. What the heck is wrong with us that we can't get our act together about this?)

I'm just going to turn off news sources more often so I can shut most of it out.

After 3 weeks of school, all 4 of my boys are liking their teachers and classmates! 13 year old son is playing Soccer. 11 Year old is playing Soccer and 9 year old? watching his brothers.

Love this thread! Good job coming up with it.
Yesterday I beat my goal time for a 3 mi run!
Also, paddled my first "long" distance on my SUP - 10 miles down a river.
I'm excited to be setting & meeting difficult physical tasks.

We will hopefully be closing on an amazing house within the next couple of weeks that will be a blessing to us & to others.

Most of our hs books have arrived & we'll start schooling right after Labor Day & pretty much everyone is excited about the coming school year & the topics we'll be studying.

My husband has been doing some outstanding things in his line of work as well as completing his degree & still managing to make time to take nightly walks with the family as well as weekly hikes with our son. He's taking better care of himself & that's great!

May grace & peace be yours in abundance!

New jobs for both me and the man (new for him after 9 months unemployed). The kids are all doing well at school starting...which is always rough coming from a short summer.

All of the bills are paid, there is food on the table, and a roof over our heads. Life isn't always easy, but I know we're blessed!

I am late to this post because we are spending a week at the beach with my husband's family (who are very nice people). It's lovely here...quiet and lots of birds. There is a beautiful wetland on the other side of us and all the kids/cousins are having a blast playing at the beach together. It's a great way to end the summer before school starts. And my other good news is I got a pretty big raise recently at my job - woohoo! Since we moved I'm working from another state, and my hours are much reduced, so I thought they might let me go soon. It turns out they are worried I might leave and don't want to lose me. How nice to feel appreciated. :)

Good morning and great question!! You are so right. The news is depressing as all get out. We just had a deputy sheriff executed at a gas station here in Houston. Disgusting!

So my good news...this is the last year in college for our son. He graduates May 14, 2016. Yeah, I'm excited about that!

We are going on an awesome trip right after graduation. Paris, Normandy Beach, London and Edinburgh. We are taking our kids and their significant others. Kids are 27 daughter and 23 son. Not kids but young adults. We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary and hubby and I wanted to share it with them. So our group of 4 has grown to 6. We like their significant others and I think these are the ones they will marry. =) Good friends of ours from Kentucky will be joining us as well so a group of 8. I'm so excited. We have been planning and saving for a couple of years.

Our daughter has a great career (Human Resources)! She loves her job and just bought her first new car. Ford Edge. She loves it. She and her boyfriend have a cute rental house. Not thrill about the living together BUT not my decision. She's a grown W..

My dad just had prostate surgery. No cancer!!!!! He is recovering at my house for the next week or so. He lives several hours away from Houston but he had his surgery here so my husband and I could help him. He's doing really well!! Yay there!!!!!

So yep, everyone is doing great here!! =)
