JFF: What's Your Beef of the Day?

My beef today are people that tailgate you when your going the speed limit, then hit the gas and speed off like a mad person while giving you a dirty look as they pass. The best part is three seconds later you both meet up at the light and suddenly they ignore you obviously embarrassed they didn't expect you to have caught up. I find these ironic moments so funny please share your beefs of the day, we all need a good laugh. :0)

My beef of the day would be a petite sirloin, medium rare, please, with a big side salad!

Seriously, I'm with you on the tailgaters. In traffic, they really don't accomplish anything except raising everyone's risk, anxiety and annoyance levels.

And I'm with Cheryl O. on clueless shoppers who block aisles. If they don't have kids to help them succeed, they might simply stop their cards diagonally across the aisle. This diagonal shopper used to be a middle-aged man, but over the past couple of years, it seems just about as many women do it.

And people who chat on their cell phones while driving scare the be-judas right out of me. I've seen so many close calls, and even more unnecessary traffic tangles.

I had a substitute teacher at Pilates class this morning and she didn't quite cut it. Had to come home and do a bunch more floor work so I could get to the point where I felt it was enough.

My home office needs an overhaul and I have a lot to catch up on and presentations to prepare for next week....ahhh, and expense reports.

My daughter is driving down to Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia for their Halloween whatever very shortly (like she hasn't seen every other Halloween attraction in Southern California already!!). I don't like the crowd it attracts there and it scares me having her driving out that far with all of the Halloween parties going on (= drunk adults, she's 18).

Mine is silly, but here goes.

I went to purchase Halloween Candy.. They are now a "1 bite size!" chocolate bars..

Ridiculous.. The fun sizes were fine and use less packaging.. If someone only wants one bite, take a bite and save the rest.. Now all of the wrappers are just more trash..

I will be handing out 4 or 6~ 1 bite candies instead of the 2 or 3 fun sizes I used to give..

Companies re not helping our waste.

My beef is that my husband NEVER plans anything for us to do together. He was the biggest romantic when we were dating....but I think he used every ounce of romance before the wedding! Our kids are getting older and we have lots of weekend nights without kids now. He just wants to sit around and no nothing! I hate it. I am very social and this is just so boring!!! I just wish he would say "Let's......blah blah blah." He will do whatever I suggest, I am just tired of doing all the suggesting. Looks like it's going to be another uneventful Sat. night!!!

Michelle:

I have several:

1. Shopping at the store and two women stop and chat - with their carts SIDE BY SIDE in THE MIDDLE OF THE AISLE with no regard to other people while their kids are running around the carts so NO ONE can get around. Saying "excuse me please" didn't phase them.

2. People who wait for a parking spot and block the aisle for other people... come on people!! There's an open one 4 slots up!! go take that one!! I had to break the pack and go around while the pinheads were waiting and blocking...4 other cars saw what I did and jammed too...it was maddening!!!

3. Snow in October in DC is RARE...we got hail, sleet, rain and snow today...there was a run on toilet paper and milk - no kidding...we have a DUSTING...and people ran to the store for toilet paper and milk!!! URGH!!]

Thanks for letting me vent!!

I agree with you. Lol.

But my beef for the day are my loud neighbors! They've been blasting music for about 3 hours now. And I'm pretty sick of it. They've turned it down some now but it's still way too loud that I can make out what song is playing.

Oh my gosh, I was gonna pop on here and be the 'other side of the coin' too when I read Roma's comment. I am 100%, hands-down in that camp. The number 1 lane is a 'passing lane', don't make someone going faster than you pass you on the right. In Europe (specifically Italy) no one drives for any length of time in the number 1 lane - it's awesome. You get into the no. 1 lane to pass someone and drive for a bit, as someone else comes up, you get back over to the right to let them pass, then they get over once they've passed you.

I hate it when people feel like they need to police other people by going slow and staying in the fast lane because they're 'going the speed limit' - it's not even a lane meant to be driven in, it's meant to be used for passing. I drive pretty fast, and if someone wants to pass me, I'm happy to get over - better than having them drive on my butt. I'm not the police and don't care to enforce speeding laws.

And, I TOTALLY agree with cell phone usage - if you're using your phone for talking or texting, you are driving like a drunk person - period. They've even done studies that show that hands-free makes no difference. You are distracted from driving and it's obvious to everyone around you - trust me.

Dont really have much to complain about today. I am packing stuff getting ready to move and have asked several neighbors to save newspapers for me, and so far 1 has brought me a few and thats all. I ran out and now I have to wait till tomorrow to hit them all up again for the big Sunday paper. Pretty minor compared to some complaints, but still, haw hard it is to NOT throw away your newspaper? lol

Leaf blowers in the neighborhood!!!!!!! I swear the gardeners in my neighborhood are addicted to their leaf blowers. I'm all for nice neat lawns but the yards in my neighborhood are small and the leaf blowers seem to be on FOREVER - at exactly the time when I'm trying to do something that requires concentration or I've just put a crabby 2 year old down for a nap. What ever happened to the good old fashioned rake?

Here's the other side of the coin (no flames, please!). I drive close to 80mi/day to and from work. I would prefer to spend as little time on the road as possible (ha -- try that driving the 101 and 405! ;-) ), so yes, I prefer to go a fast as reasonably possible, when I can, but I don't tailgate. BUT, I do resent people who drive the speed limit or below in the number 1 lane when there's 6 or more car lengths between them and the traffic ahead, which is clearly moving faster than they are. The CA driving codes state clearly that if you're not drive the speed of prevailing traffic, you should move over (when safe) and let faster moving vehicles go by.

So, if you're one of those slower moving drivers, please be considerate! Passing should be carried out on the left, not the right. The fastest two lanes of traffic on the freeway should be the number 1 and 2 lanes. You should never make a faster moving car pull to the right to pass you! If you want to drive more slowly, please drive in the number 3, 4, or 5 lanes.

The same goes for the diamond lane, although I can certainly understand if carpooling drivers moving at a decent clip in the DL don't want to have to pull into regular traffic that may be crawling. Still, there's nothing more maddening than sitting behind someone in the DL who's going less than 65mph with a clear stretch ahead of them! I will say that some of the problem I think is caused by the way DLs are handled in L.A. In N. CA, you can legally merge in and out of the DL at any time. Traffic definitely flows better with this set up, because if someone needs to leave the DL, they don't have to slow everyone else down while trying to merge into regular traffic in a very short interchange space to exit the freeway. Also, if you're driving behind a pokey little puppy who refuses to give way, you could pass on the right at any point.

Oh, and my other peeve is drivers who are totally oblivious to what's going on around them because they're talking on the cell phone. They should get a hand's free device for heaven's sake, and check their rear-view mirror once in a while. Everyone will be safer and happy for doing so!

The cost to send a long distance fax at Office Depot.
$2.39 for the first page and $1 for each additional page.
Really? That is so way more than the cost of the long distance phone call.
Ugh

I love this too! They totally ignore you when you pull up at the same light. Lame!

Also good is when they refuse to let you merge on to a trafficky freeway when you're coming in from the onramp, then you eventutally get in behind them, and move to the next lane and end up passing them... really? I couldn't just get in front of you? We're all just trying to move forward on the freeway people. There's no trophy at the end.

My husband always says that if we weren't in the safety of our little metal boxes (cars) people would not act this way. Imagine a person in target walking super close behind you in the shopping cart, then speeding around you to cut you off to get to the register (ok maybe this stuff DOES happen sometimes around the holidays!) But generally, people are much more courteous in person.

Inconsiderate people who must think they are the only (or most important) people walking the planet. For example:

The person who leaves their grocery cart IN THE MIDDLE of the aisle.

The person who doesn't use their blinker.

The person who drives 7 mph in a 40 mph zone.

The person who won't let you merge.

The person who rsvp's to your party way after the rsvp date or doesn't rsvp at all and just shows up. Or rsvp's yes and then doesn't come.

My current neighbors who let their huge dog bark for hours on end.

People who say they're going to do something and then don't.

The "friends" who always ask you for favors but never have time for you when you need a favor.

The people who throw their dog's poo in my trash can.

The solicitors who ring my doorbell despite the "No Solicitors" sign hanging right above it.

I just don't understand how some folks can be so self absorbed!!! Wake up, people! You are not on this planet alone!!

Moms at a school, that are so stuck up.... they can't even say "hi" even if you all see each other on campus, EVERYday.
And then when you try to say hi or make small talk, (just to be nice), they can't even look friendly and just act like they are deaf.
But then you see them, talking to other people, that are more... "rich" looking or have kids that look a certain way or color or are in a certain clique.

Every time I go shopping, I get a cart that has wheels that don't want to go the direction I'm pushing! They wobble, get stuck, make horrid noises, etc... You would think that stores could hire someone on a part-time basis to fix the wheels on shopping carts!!!! Argh.. that's my beef. lol
