JFF Would You Move Out of the Country?

The "move to Holland" question has me thinking about this.

There is NO way I would move out of the country. I don't really have any *good* reason on why. I also have NO desire to visit any country. I do see pics of Switzerland and think, maybe if I WON a free trip I might go. I have only been to Mexico and not really anxious to get back. lol However, in my later years I would LOVE to visit every state and intend to do so.

I'm just not a traveller. I'm more of a homebody. I've never met anyone like me. What about you?

What can I do next?

Nope. Love New York, I'm a city girl, don't drive, and like you MzKitty, am a homebody of sorts. I do love to travel, hate making the plans for it and get all cranky, but when I get wherever, I'm good and glad I did it. Tons of of countries I'd love to visit, but not live in.

I love to travel. I love seeing how other peoples live and what they do.

When my mom married my dad she had never been out of the state of California. Then traveled all over the world with him and loved it.

My wife had never been out of the State of California when we got married and now she has been to 46 or 47 states, Europe, Africa, Austrailia, North America, and South America. I've been to all 50 states, 47 countries and all the continents except Antartica. I've enjoyed 18 cruises and had a wonderful time.

I've lived in Japan (3 years) and Germany (4 years). I have never found a country as wonderful as America, but I'd go and live in another country for a short period of time (1 to 4 years) in a heart beat.

There are a lot of really nice people in this great and wonderful world we live in and I love to meet them.

Good luck to you and yours.

Heck yeah...I'd move out of the country.

Now, I hate being cold, so normally I would think of some tropical place. What I didn't realize, until recently, is that there is some pretty great stuff about certain places in Canada.

A) Eastern Canada gets much warmer than where I currently live.
B) A woman I deal with there for work purposes not only gets THEIR holidays off with pay, she gets all U.S. holidays off with pay as well. Our Thanksgiving? She gets 4 days off. With pay. Their benefit structure is very different than ours.

I work with a woman who lived in Thailand for seven years. She says they were the happiest years of her life. She LOVED it there. Yes, they have funky creatures, but it was worth it to her. She moved back to the U.S. after her attorney husband had a stroke and they needed to be closer to family.
She longs to go back and I bet she will, someday.

There are lots of beautiful places in this world. I enjoy watching House Hunters International. I think it would be so exciting to live abroad for a while. There are places in Mexico that have 258 days of sun per year, right near the ocean.

I could be happy with that.

I have lived in three different countries and for the most part loved it. My husband's job has us moving every 3-5 years and that includes living overseas. I can't say I have totally loved it but it has been an amazing adventure that we are not done with yet. My kids are young right now and my oldest won't remember living in one of those countries because she was so young but I think it will be a great experience for them to see different cultures, people, countries etc. And to actually live in these places not just for a visit. Living in another country is a totally different experience than visiting one. I like to travel but I hate going through TSA LOL.

I'm not a traveler either. Actually, I'm not a plane traveler. I love to travel by car and train. Kind of hard to cross the ocean that way :)

I would, MOVE to another country. I've always wanted, even if for a short time. Staying there for a week doing the touristy stuff on vacation, no. Moving to a foreign country and being immersed in the culture, totally.

My husband would be just like you! We went to Amsterdam 12 years ago, and he was awful. Couldn't adjust, hated the food, blah, blah, blah. He found a Hard Rock Cafe there, and we ended up eating there every night because he couldn't adapt. <sigh>

Now, I on the other hand, would not move permanently outside of the USA, but I'd love to travel abroad. I loved going overseas and experiencing the different cultures and food. I would not want to be gone for any great length of time. Just a couple weeks.

Fun question!

Depends on the country, the experience, etc. Friends have been overseas for military deployments or for job opportunities or to experience a culture (like going to Israel for a year) more than you can on a vacation. I would want to be able to come home for visits periodically and I personally wouldn't want to be somewhere open ended. But if the right opportunity came up, and it was good for DD, too, I'd go and I think DH would, too. He says if he won the lottery he'd buy one of those old small castles/manor houses in Scotland and retire there.

We have friends who live in London but are stateside at least once a year around Christmas.

I love to travel and do the non-tourist thing. DD is only 4 and has been to Bermuda, the UK and Ireland. When money permits, there are many other places I'd love to go.

I would absolutely move out of the country! I love Asia and could easily live there. Thailand would be my first choice, but do you know what my major hang up is? Snakes! I can't deal with snakes, especially the thought of poisonous snakes. I didn't encounter any snakes in Thailand, but I prayed fervently every day that I wouldn't see any, and that if I got bit by one that I would drop dead before seeing it. :) I'm weird, I know!

I have been to several countries and almost all of our states, so I love to travel, but there is nothing like HOME! :)

I didn't like it in the beginning. Now, am more used to it. Realized life is still the same, in the logical sense. Actually, it has made our visits back home, an even bigger cause for celebration and something to look fwd to.

But most of Europe , a larger portion of Asia, Some parts of Africa, Australia ... oh yeah ... I'd live there for at least a year.

Yep! Have before, and would again. :)

I LOVE travel. Spent half my childhood overseas. Not enough of my adulthood. Personal mission is to have stacks of totally full passports.

There are a short list if places I would never go, and places I reeeeally don't like. Mexico is on my ick list. You couldn't pay me to go to Mexico again. I lived in so cal, so have a lot of first gen mex-American friends, its not the people, but the place... Because I really loathe the country itself (there are other Latin American countries I adore). If that had been, I might feel the same way you do.

I've spent most of my time in the pacific rim, Mediterranean (southern EU & northern Africa). A little time in N EU, and mesoamerics

I've never been out of the US either, but would love to travel. We have some very dear friends who moved to Amsterdam with their little girl. They sold everything - cars, house, ATV's, dogs, toys, everything. They arrived with nothing but the clothes on their backs and in their bags. The man has two teen aged kids and they live here with their mom but spent the entire Summer in Amsterdam. I wouldn't be able to leave my kids in this country for 3/4 of the year! It is interesting to see their posts on FB, though. :)

UK (England, Wales, Scotland - I'd visit Ireland but would not want to live there).

Canada
Australia I'd like to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

But I want the means to do it though. Back packing around Europe is not for me. Though I wouldnt need a 5 star penthouse either. We have friends who moved for Italy for a year, when their kids were 8 and 11. They knew no one, spoke no Italian, just kind of threw themselves into it. Their girls went to an Italian school (no English) and LOVED it, especially the boys lol!
After visiting Paris last year my husband and I are looking forward to doing London sometime next year. I can't wait to soak up all that history and culture :)

Oh I love to travel! I can't understand why you don;t want to. If you lived in a awesome place then maybe. But all I heard about AZ is how hot and dry it is.
I have been to lot of states in the US , and intend to go to all. I will go to a different country for sure. There is so much to experience and I personally feel travelling to different countries and experiencing different cultures makes you a better person as well. It's not all about the place but you see how life is elsewhere , you will interact with lot of people and learn about things which you have never heard before. It will make you happy and humble for all that you have in life.
I would not move to Mexico though, but anywhere in Europe YES! Holland sounds great!!

I've lived in 4 countries and I am proud citizens of 2. What do I love about living abroad? Perspective. The world and people aren't "us vs. them", we're all just people, with the same needs and desires.

Of course, you don't need to travel to experience this perspective. I equally love to live vicariously through various characters in novels, historical fiction and biographies. I think the more you experience, the more humble and welcoming you are...whether that experience is personal or books.
