My job recently changed to where I'm in a very noisy environment. (Everyone in the room wears headphones or other ear protection.) I'm almost 29 weeks now and I'm wondering if I should ask for reassignment b/c this may be harmful to the baby. Anyone that has any advice please let me know. I will say I'm making 2$ more per hour than I was or will be if I transfer...

What can I do next?

Honestly, what your baby hears is so muffled this will not bother him/her at all. Between your heartbeat and all the swooshes in the womb this outside noise won't do anything. The only negative effects are likely to be to you - high blood pressure and an increase in tiredness.

Hi C.- I was teaching high-school students for my entire pregnancy- perhaps not always the constant noise that you have, but certainly very noisy and chaotic at times!! I actually believe my daugther benefitted from this- she LOVES to be in stores, restaurants, church- anywhere that there are a lot of people around!

Hi Christine!

It is very normal to be concerned of every detail the first pregnancy as you are more aware of everything going on around you and you just want to do everything right by that baby of yours! There is absolutely no danger by the noise to your baby. If you are that concerned, I suggest that you talk to your doctor the next time that you go for a visit so that you can get a professional opinion. I would continue working the position that you are at as long as possible so that you can bank as much money as you can. If it gets to be too much being on your feet then ask for a transfer later in your pregnancy. I wish you a very happy and healthy pregnancy and delivery! Merry Christmas!

I'd say it's probably better for having a noisy environment, that way the baby will be used to noise when it's born and will learn to sleep thru it since you already have a child and they do tend to be noisy no matter how quiet you try to be when a baby is sleeping..

I am a grade 5 teacher and had both my girls in the summer, so they grew and went through the third trimester as school was coming to a close. Trust me, you don't know noise until you have been in a classroom of 24 11-year olds in May and June!! I have had no issues with my girls' hearing or sleep ability. In fact, they share a room and are both able to sleep through the other's crying most of the time! I attribute my two-year old's excellent speaking and vocal abilities to hearing so much speech while in the womb, from me and the kids. Don't worry, it will be fine!! Good luck!

Christine , Relax and enjoy that pregnancy and all the joy and misery that comes with it . It only happens once . Your baby already has headphones on . its your skin or your layers of skin . Everything to him or her is muffled inside you inside the water sac . The baby is fine . They test the hearing now before you even leave the hospital after delivery . If the noise bothers you wear headphones and still keep your money .Did you know that most hospitals have a birthing plan now and tour of the hospital . You can pick your own environment as to how you want to have your baby . you can select drugs you may or may not want , lighting atmosphere tv on or off door open or closed food or no food or just ice chips . You can choose the hottub or whirlpool if your hospital provides it . Take a tour of the maternitty ward / birhing center . Talk to your Dr ahead of time then the hospital and you and your dr will all have a copy of the birthing plan you choose. The day my daughter was born a local restaraunt provides a candlelit meal that you get to choose room a menu as a dinner with your husband in your hospital room free of charge as a service to your hospital all included in your room stay by your insurance . they do not list this as a request of insurance ogf course it is just included in the room charge .. My daughter also got a birthday cake the hospital provided free to celebrate with her big brother ( so he could feel included and with her family .) You can even choose what people you want in the room or to visit later after you had a chance to shower . You can also choose if your husband would like to cut the cord providing there is no complications or ned for a c section . you can choose a one time spinal shot that i had that was like heaven or an epidural or no drugs at all . I will tell you it took them 25 moinutes to get the spinal shot into my spine when usually it takes 1 sec but after that hell i delivered my daughter 34 minutes later and the shot wore off in a hour . it is called an Intrathecal spinal shot . there are no wires or pumps attached like with an Epidural it is just a one time shot . Good luck and Enjoy . This is your and your husbands baby . For the rest of that kids life you will call the shots s to what you want fopr them . mIght as well start right out of the gate . god Bless and even if all your requests on the birthing plan are not carried out to your specific desires it will be close and you will have wonderful memories anyways . I wanted a certain dr but i got the one i didnt want guess what ? he was awesome .God Speed to you and yours . Sincerely M. M
