My daughters', who are 8 and 12, rarely get sick and they take no vitamins. I think it's genetics and other factors. Everything I've heard about vitamins is that they are a waste of money.
Someone put up info about a vitamin that there kids took and they hardly ever got sick. Was it called Juice Plus? I need to do something with my daughter we do vitamins daily but ever since she started preschool she has been sick constantly. She is 3 and 1/2 years old. Thanks

Juice plus is a multi-level marketing company. (pyramid scam.) It's just like any other work at home sales company. They make an average product and mark it way up, to pay commissions. You are better off going to a natural foods store and getting a whole food vitamin and probiotics. Especially, probiotics. They will build up her immune system more then anything. Whole food vitamins don't have the synthetic from, of the vitamin and are much more effective. The research behind those are actually legitimate and will strengthen your child's immune system. I am all for alternative medicine and vitamins, but juice plus is a big rip off. Check out quackwatck. They are non-profit, consumer protection site, that is very reputable. They expose myths and frauds, in the alternative healthy community. (the American Cancer Society among others, recommends the site, when researching alternative medicines. We use alternative medicine in our house, so we use the site often!)
Also, I was not meaning to imply at home businesses are scams. I was simply saying, the pries are marked up, because of the commissions that have to be paid. The product you get, is not enough quality to pay the giant mark-up.
We have given my son probiotics and vitamins since birth and he has never been sick.

My daughter took it for a year, we had a trial where we did surveys and got it for free. My daughter is never sick, so i dont know if it is any help to say she was sick maybe once with the sniffles during this time. But as a person who spent two years working in an industry where researching vitamins and trying them, recommending, and a portion of my day was spent glued to the contents of vitamins......there are good levels there and the vitamin is worth it, and they are yummy.
I am sorry, but Juice Plus is not a scam and it's business structure is set up like a mlm, but it's not run like a typical mlm. First of all, other than a sole proprietorship, I don't know of any business that doesn't follow some form of mlm strategy. If you are a boss, you hire employees who share your product or services by working for you, they tell people about what they do, and then encourage others to use your business. While the person may not get a direct payment for bringing in customers, they are likely to get a promotion if they are company-minded and believe in what they do. When they get the promotion, they have people working under them and generally make more money themselves and for the company. Am I right? Enough said about the business aspects of Juice Plus.
From a professional perspective, I am an assistant college professor with a masters degree in community health, an undergraduate degree in exercise science/cardiac rehabilitation, am an ACSM certified personal trainer, and have over 20 years experience in teaching people how to make better choices that affect their personal wellness.
From a personal perspective, I am a mother of three boys who all take Juice Plus as part of the Children's Health Study. I have been on it longer than my husband and kids due to Graves' Disease requiring medication that lowers my immune system. Juice Plus is not a cure or substitute for eating healthy foods. It is taken to supplement a diet that is low in fruits and vegetables. I have read the numerous, credible research studies. I am an academic geek who loves that kind of stuff and only look to reputable research journals when I want information. The Juice Plus studies are there and the findings about its bioavailability are what convinced me to start taking it.
Results for my family: My kids haven't had a sick visit to their pediatrician in the last two years. I no longer suffer from sinus and yeast infections with every season change. My husband used to get this eczema-like skin problem on his biceps every fall/winter and for the first time this winter he doesn't have it. He has been on Juice Plus only for a few months. He used to take all kinds of supplements for muscle development, but thankfully, is only taking Juice Plus and Omega 3 like me. Get this - he's finally seeing the changes, weight gain, and joint pain relief he has been seeking, but wasn't being achieved with other supplements.
Bottom line: If you are not eating 5, preferably 9 to 13, servings of fruits and vegetables every day and/or it's a constant battle to get your kids to even eat a little, then Juice Plus is the next best thing in my opinion. My kids are more conscious of their health, are trying to eat more vegetables in particular, and because we all are taking it, it's not a battle in my house.
The product is not a scam and is worth the money. Want to be able to afford it? Cut back on the snack and package foods you buy each week that nutritionally do nothing for you. That's why I did. Then enroll yourself, spouse, if applicable, and your kids in the Children's Health Study. For every adult who orders it, a kid gets it for free in chewable or capsule form.

There are a few things you can do to make a difference in her health. I will give you the combination of a wellness home if you want and it will help her to get stronger and stay healthier.
I have found that there are different quality of vitamins out there. Some are good and some are junk. To keep the cost down they add more binders and fillers so you think you are getting a good deal and it is full of sand, coal tar, shampoo, some have lead, and many different binders and fillers that are legal to add to make you feel like you are getting a deal. There are 6 companies in the world that have more then 17% of what they say is in the bottle. That is all that is required. The best vitamins to take is in a wholefood form it is natural, wholefood and organic and is pharmecutical. That means it is 99-100% of what it says on that bottle. Just because it is cheap doesn"t mean it is healthy.
Do your homework so you can raise healthier children and that is what I do is educate just that.
Have a good night.

My family and me did Juice Plus for a while, great fruit and veggie supplements but very expensive. We found at our local Sams Club JuiceFestiv pills by Natrol same effects as Juice Plus but wayyyy cheaper. We paid only $17 for the veggie and fruit pills ($29.99 online) which was better than $130 for JuicePlus that likes to put you on a program that charges your credit card every month to continue worry free shipment to you (which was a hassle to cancel). Here is the link so you can check it out yourself and maybe find it in your local health food store or other store. http://www.natrol.com/prod_specialty.aspx?prod=5
Sorry your daughter isn't feeling well; hope she gets better soon.

About the comment on home-based business being scams, that is not true.

It's very normal and expected for kids to get sick for a couple of months when they start a new school, or even a new class. They are suddenly exposed to new germs and their little systems are building their immune systems. Many things she is being exposed to right now will protect her as an adult from many illnesses. Boosting her immune system isn't a bad thing though.
At the bottom of this article is a note about booting kids immune systems. Dr. Sears is pretty smart.

my son and i used them for a year. during the year, when the family got an illness, my son was often the last one to get sick or didn't get sick at all. i however got sick with everyone else and was sometimes the sickest or took the longest to get over it. in hopes that the juice plus was at least the reason for my son's good health, i wanted to continue it, but in the end it was just too costly. there are so many other things i needed to spend $45 a month on. 2 illnesses have gone through the family since then and my son did not get sick. so maybe the juice plus did him a lot of good, or maybe he just has a good immune system. there's no telling.
hello
I have tried the product.. it's ok... you can get into what they call the children's study , in which case, they will provide the childrens vitamins for free... but you have to keep track of the health related results. Here's the thing.. I didn't do it because when I checked the ingredients of the childrens vitamins they had maltodextrin in it and I thought, why am I going to give my kid a vitamin with that in it.. .they make the vitamins more sweet.. but to me, I didn't think it was worth it. especially since my son will eat veggies and fruits without a problem. I think IF you decide to look into the product, read up on ALL the ingredients.. Also, I am not really sure that even if you take the vitamins, it's going to do much... diet is what counts most.. perhaps you can give your child more LIVE foods.. (I have read that really helps the immune system) e.g. FRESHLY squeezed O.J. as oppose to processed . Also, there are other kid vitamins you can get that are in fact ALL pure ingredients. I would do your homework first. Dr. Mercola has a good website on such topics and how to build up one's immune system
best of luck
We take Juice Plus and love them. It has helped immensely with our not getting sick (for all of us). We are also very good water drinkers, and teach/preach to keep hands off your face/mouth. With a combo of all of that, it has also helped.
We all take the soft chews from Juice Plus.
Just my two cents,
R.
If I could afford it, my whole family would be on Juice Plus. They are great vitamins!
