my husband is a junk food junkie and now my daughter who is two is starting to pick up the habit. she is always turning the nutritonal foods that I offer down. I have even sent her to bed without any food because all she wants is junk. I tried to ask my husband not to eat so much junk around her and he just says to do as I say not what I do which doesn't usually work. can anyone give suggestions for snacks or meals??

What can I do next?

My husband was a junk food junkie but thanks to a nutrition book my daughter had for a class at USF that she had him read and the doctors advice he is now on a healthy diet. If you have a book on hand as to what carbs do to your body get him to read it. It may change his mind about what he puts in his mouth. Explain to him that he is destroying his daughters health because he refuses to eat healthy. My Mom said that my Dad never ate veggies until us kids were born. He wanted us to be healthy so he started to eat healthy foods. He was a strictly meat and potatoe man until then....

I am having the same exact problem. I was told by a friend to let him eat as much as he wants as a snack as long as it's healthy. Well, I thought, "yeah right". I ended up bying baby carrots and he LOVES them, so I let him eat those all he wants. I also bought rice cakes and celery with peanut butter. I am typing this as my kids are snacking of crackers, not the best thing huh, LOL. My kids both like apples, oranges, and bananas. Try those for snacks. I have noticed that you have to let the example, and it is hard. I love my junk food, especially when I make rice crispy treats. Ican eat a whole pan in a day or two. I try not to let them see me or they want it too.

Not having it in the house is best, but your hubby doesn't seem willing to do that. Can you try convincing him to save that kind of eating for after the girls are in bed? If there is something we don't want our son eating, we certainly don't eat it ourselves in front of him! If we really have to have it, we wait until after he is in bed and I even feel guilty about that!

My husband has a horrible sweet tooth and has battled with keeping it under control for a long time. One thing we've found that has helped us, was started to drink Mona Vie. It helps appease the sweet tooth while providing 13 servings of fruits a day, and there's no added sugar or additives that is bad for you. I even give it to my 11 month old son, and he loves it. If you want some more info, let me know, I have a bunch of health benefit info that I can send you! Good luck!

Try not to buy it so it won't be in the house. And what junk are you talking about?

I completely understand what you're going through because I went through it with my husband. We went around and around with it. He didn't think it was a big deal when she was younger. But once she got older and started gaining a little weight, I was finally able to get through to him. From my experience, the only way to stop children from eating junk food is keeping it out of the house. If it's here, it will be eaten first. My kids love popcorn. That's the closest thing to junk that we have. Other than that, I try to get fresh fruits and veggies into them for snacks. We all love carrots and go through quite a bit. And sliced cucumbers are a big hit here. At age 2, both of my kids loved cheerios. Good luck.

I would assume you're the one who goes grocery shopping? Stop buying the junk. If its not there they can't eat it. Granola bars, pop tarts are better of the junk. remember its not always what you eat but how much of it you eat. Start buying grain crackers, with low fat cream chees, pb crackers, cheese slices, fruit, with the fruit buy a low fat dip of some sort, veggies, with a low fat low carb dip, boiled eggs are fun to peel, and eat for children, hide a lot of the snacks if your husband must have them but you dont want your children eating them. Out of Sight Out of Mind, Put your foot down, LIMIT THE JUNK or none at all. the internet has an incredible amount of healthy snacks, and the free Family magazine which also has a website.
