Just Between Friends of Dallas/Mesquite.. Has Anyone Been to One of Their Sales?

I go to the one in Denton. It's wonderful! Very clean and organized. I always go to the half-price sale; there's always still a good selection. Happy saving!

I have been to the one in Grapevine. It's one of those things where I find some things overpriced and some things are a steal. Not everything in the building is half priced on the half priced day, just those marked with a special tag. I have been on the both the half priced and full priced days. By the half priced day things are fairly picked over, but some of the prices are amazing...I found shirts that seemed brand new for $1 and some great deals on toys too. I have never consigned for them, but I have a friend who has. She says that for her, it was worth it and she'll do it again. She also loves the fact that you get to shop a day early if you consign with them. I don't know if this helps you decide or not.

I have been and I have consigned at a sale about two years ago. I have to say that I didn't think it was worth the hassle (both buying and consigning).
Other places may be organized better, but where I was I was standing in the checkout line for two hours!
As someone else said, some things were a steal, others were overpriced... consigners make their own prices. There is a lot of women NOT on the best behaviour, rifling through the items, using their elbows and choice words to keep away the competition.
Since I went, I never felt the compulsion to return to one of these events. Instead I use local consignment stores, Goodwill and Freecycle.

I've never been to the one in Mesquite but I consign for the Ft. Worth one and I've shopped both the Mid-Cities and Ft. Worth ones. You have to be prepared for spending time, if your kids aren't shoppers don't take them. Bring a laundry basket with a belt or scarf attached for dragging behind you. Toys tend to go fast sometimes before the sale is even open to the public, consigners/volunteers have the first shopping opportunities. You're best off looking for younger kids clothes, once you get to size 4-5 the pickings are slim, especially for boys. The 1/2 price days do tend to have picked over stuff but there are still deals to be found and it's up to the consigner to designate if they want their things to go at 1/2 price. It's also up to each individual to price their items so you will find overpriced stuff too. Everything is checked over before it's put out on the sales floor but I have found that I've picked up clothing and it has stains or holes before so you do have to double check.
As a consigner you learn if you over price you're not going to make money. I made over $150 last spring and that was only clothing, no toys, probably around 70 items including socks, hats etc. They pay you 65% of your asking price and charge a $10 fee ( you earn 70% if you volunteer for just 4 hours). I thought I did pretty good considering I wouldn't earn that much from some place like Kid to Kid. If you don't want to drive all the way to Mesquite, check the other sales, the one in Ft. Worth is Labor Day weekend and the one in Denton is in October.

They have a huge sale in Denton, too, at the Civic Center, since you're close by in Ponder. I've consigned & shopped there for 2 years now & absolutely love it! If you consign some of your own things that your kids have outgrown or don't play w/ anymore, you can shop earlier & get first choice on all the items. If you volunteer & consign, you get to keep 70% of the selling price, vs. 65% if you just consign w/o volunteering. Hope that makes sense. The Denton sale is the first weekend in October. It is well worth it - I got Halloween costumes & Christmas presents there!

I went to the one in Mesquite 2 years ago and I was a bit disappointed. There was a lot of stuff there but nothing I wanted to bring home. I love going to Kid 2 Kid and that sort of thing but this seemed dirtier to me. ?

I attended the one in Grapevine, it was ok. I prefer the Divine Consign sales. Check out their website. They are the same thing I just find more.

I went to it in McKinney this spring and got some great deals. I went the second day before it went 1/2 price and for my daughter's size 18 months, there was still plenty of clothes, but few things I liked. If you are looking to get toys and items, I would go the first day. I didn't know about it, and now that you said something I might look for it to go today. I would wait, but I'm going out of town.

I have heard positive things about JBF just haven't made it to one of their sales.

If you're thinking of shopping, then it's a decent deal. Most of the clothing is gently worn and on half price day you can get clothes for little or nothing.

I WOULD NOT ever consign with them again...ever. Especially if you have older kids clothing because they will not sell and your clothing will conveniently be donated to their charity to sell there.

I put out over $400 (even at half price) worth of girls and boys jeans, coats and dresses and according to them only sold $120 worth of stuff and they only paid me $38 after they took all their "fees" and then when I came to pick them up they "accidently" got put in the donation stuff and was no longer there...we're talking 40 pairs of jeans. So it'll never happen again.

Buying is good. Selling with them is NOT.
