KCMO mommas....which Hospital??

This will be my first Kansas City baby. I need to go in and have my inital ob workup stuff done. I don't want to pick an ob out here until I decide which hospital I would *like* to deliver at ( I know, there are no garuntees). I need to decide between North Kansas CIty Hospital, Liberty Hospital, or St. Luke's Northland Hospital.

I have several antibody (not Anti-D, more serious) issues. I can also almost be 100% positive that baby will be in the hospital for a little while. I am looking for a good nursery/NICU where the delivery staff is very laid back, go with the flow, and let mom decide (for the most part) what is best for her labor/delivery.

Have you delivered at any of these hospitals? How was the nursery/nursery staff? Would you recommend one over the other?

Let's assume distance isn't an issue.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for the answers so far.

Just a note: I don't live in Warrensburg anymore, otherwise I would just go to WMMC like I did (and loved) with my last two. I hate that I have to find everything new here in KC.

I was entirely unhappy with NKC hospital. Their lack of staffing, not keeping a doctor on hand, not listening to me, and giving my daughter too much narcotic, almost lead to my grandsons death. The night shift nurses had already delivered 2 babies without doctors and my grandson was coming fairly quick. We were there 3 hours and they still did not manage to get a doctor there, even though they knew my daughter was laboring all weekend at home. Then the cord was wrapped around his neck twice and he was over sedated. He was in the NICU for 2 days. I tried to tell the nurses that my daughter had a bad reaction to narcotics she took for a headache once and they still gave her another dose when she was already an 8 centimeter and I told and told them that we have a long history of quick deliveries in my family. My grandsons apgar scores were 2, 3, and 8.

You are in Warrensburg, which is not too far from me (Clinton) and we were going to choose St. Lukes South in Overland Park for our 3rd baby, things didn't work out that way. After a lot of research and phone calls that was the hosptal we wanted this time around.

Good luck making this decision.

St. Luke's South in Lee's Summit is where I delivered and they were awesome.

Have you toured any of them yet? How far would it be to go to Shawnee Mission? Shawnee Mission Medical Center has a great birthing center, one of my friends delivered there 3 times with C-Sections each time. She said they have it so you don't have to share the nurses with many other patients so you get a lot of individual care.

please please please do NOT go to Liberty Hospital!!! They caused me to have a blood clot, they did nothing to help my son who was born with TONS of feeding issues, after getting the blood clot and having to be re-admitted I was trying so hard to pump BM because my son was admitted to Childrens Mercy less than 24 hours after he was released from LH, and while on the unit I was on they threw away what little colustrum I was able to pump. They are heartless!!!! I had my twins at St Lukes Northland. They were amazing, beyond amazing. They saved my twins' lives, they would have died if they hadnt had such a good NICU and then they were able to realize and admit when they didnt know enough to give them the best care and transfered them down to Childrens Mercy. (all of my boys were born with cleft lip and palate so they all had a ton of feeding issues and other health issues related to the clefts). So, my vote is for St Lukes Northland. I never had a baby at NKC hospital, but I did have a horrible experience in their ER. Good Luck!!!

I guess I'm not sure why you are going to all northland hospitals from Warrensburg? I would think that if you can go to St. Lukes Northland, you could go to St. Lukes South or St. Lukes Plaza which would have the best (I would think) experience with your issues.
