I don't know if your girls like to do crafts, but I just loaded up on summer craft projects at Dollar Tree for my sons, ages 6 and 8. They had some great stuff for cheap.

Hey moms, I am due to have a baby any day now, and am looking for any ideas on how to help keep my 3 & 6 yr old daughters occupied over the summer, with a new little one at home. I really need ideas for things to do at home, ie.. great websites, or arts and crafts etc. The 6 yr old is my biggest concern because we are no longer fun for her now that she has enetered the world of school and friends. Any ideas for cheap, fun things to do out of the house would be great too, just trying to plan a fun, easy summer for all of us. Thanks!!

If you have a sand box and a fun sprinkler then I think that you are all set. I have four children ages 5, 4, 2, and 2 months plus I am a home child care provider. When it gets hectic I rush them outside (weather permitting) and turn on the sprinkler. Water guns and blowing bubbles are great fun too. Also sidewalk chalk and small kites. All these keep my three older ones very busy and happy. The only thing is that you have to be willing to let them actually get a little dirty...I know, it isn't easy to clean them up and it takes a lot of time but the smiles and fun they have while I get stuff done is priceless. We sometimes have picnic lunches on our front lawn or take the lunch to a nearby park. Everyone pitches in to make the lunch. (A three year old can put chips and cut up veggies into sandwich bags) We all walk over to the park and have a great time playing, eating, and walking home for a nap. On friday nights there is a movie in the park activity that is free for everyone and our family is going to be doing that. You can look in the newspaper to find some great family activities that are free for the whole family.
Both of your girls should love clicking around at www.starfall.com. It occupies my 3-yr-old for about a half hour at a time. It has age-appropriate material for pre-school through elementary.
I stay at home with my two and babysit one other kiddo and had the same dilemma about things to do.
The Denton south branch library (on Teasley, by the CVS pharmacy) has a good storytime schedule. They're on a break for May, but should start up again in June.
For a good book list, you can check out www.letteroftheweek.com. It's a free preschool curriculum that includes a list of books every week based on different themes.
Good tip: You can reserve the library books you want online and the library staff will have them collected and labeled with your name on a shelf near the front desk. This saves a ton of searching time!
We also like to go to the Barnes & Noble children's area (Denton mall or the Lewisville store). They play with the trains and read books, then we head to the little play area in front of Ross.
If you run a childcare program in your home, you might already have good outdoor play equipment. If not, I highly recommend a sand box with cool digging and sifting toys. My daughter could spend a week in hers!
Turning on a fun sprinkler in the back yard is also a fun thing. Mine actually prefer to run through the water in their regular clothes than in their swimsuits!
They might also be interested in a small container garden of their own. They could choose their own flowers (or herbs or whatever) and decorate their pots. Target usually sells cute kids' gardening gear.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
Hi A.,
Have you checked out the MOMS club of Corinth? I have belonged to the Lake Cities chapter for 5 years and love it! I know the Corinth chapter is preparing to split into 2 chapters right now, so they might be a little temporarily unorganized, but I'm sure their activity calendar will still look good!
If you're interested, let me know and I'll see if I can track down the contact person for their chapter. You can also check out the Intl organization at momsclub.org
