Hi All,

I am hosting a halloween party for my daughter's 5th birthday and we are feeding everyone (siblings, parents, and friends). I am looking for easy to eat dinner recipies for kids and parents that aren't too messy and are easy to make. We will be playing pin the tail on the donkey and having a pinata (sp?), then going out trick or treating. I would appreciate any other ideas you may have for recipies or activities. My idea is to keep it simple and let them have fun.

Thanks, A.

What can I do next?

Mummy dogs are always fun: http://www.pillsbury.com/Recipes/ShowRecipe.aspx?rid=16015

Blood red punch:
3 packages strawberry flavored Kool-Aid mix.
1-46 oz can pineapple juice
92 oz water
3 C sugar
1-2 liter Sprite, refrigerated
Directions: Mix the first 4 ingredients together, stirring until all the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a clean 1 gallon container (there will be some left over — chef’s treat!) and freeze overnight. When ready to serve, place the frozen mix in a punch bowl and pour the Sprite over it.

I have a really easy sandwich roll you can make! It's called the snake.

1 pkg cresent dough
mustard, mayo
turkey, ham and cheese

lay the dough out on a flat surface roll into rectangle put spread mustard and mayo than layer cheese turkey and ham. roll up the combo on inside pinch edges should look like a long stick place on baking sheet shape into snake brush with egg whites with tiny bit of green food coloring. Use green stuffed olives for eyes and whole peppercorn for nose and for tongue place a strip of roasted red pepper(can find this in a jar at kroger) fork the end to resemble snake tongue. Bake according to cresent roll package. This whole process takes about 20 minutes and you can make two or three at a time depending on how many guest. Everybody thinks I'm Martha Stewart! It's really good. I keep telling everyone it's about the presentation!
Serve large bowls of assorted chips. Pick up scary halloween cookies at the grocery. Don't forget drinks. They sell Halloween small cokes and assorted soda's put those on ice in one of those large plastic caldron's(Walmart). I like to put plastic spiders all over the table. Use diposable platic plates and napkins(Party City)Spread spider webs all over the place (easy to clean up) Lots of candles, scary music and your done!

My nephew's party is on Halloween and here is the menu my sister decided on:

Nachos- one with just Velveeta for the non meat eaters and one with rotel, and hamburger meat, and tositos scoops.

Punch- Orange sherbet with orange slices and lime slices with 7up

Frito pie- wolf brand chili, fritos scoops, and shredded cheese

veggie tray with ranch dip (1 16 ounce of sourcream and ranch dressing/dip packet)

I would definatley go for cupcake cake. These are so easy and you do not need a knife or plates.. Cupcake and a napkin..

We are also making the ready bake pumpkin sugar cookies for the little kids who want to decorate them.

As for activities.. what about put Scary musical chairs, you play like scary kiddie music and the winner gets a prize!

Candy Corn Bingo- You can buy a cheap bingo game or download paper forms online.. The kids can use candy corn for their chips.. they will eat some while playing but hey its a party, why not..

Also I went to a party last year with my daughter and the played the freeze game. You play music and then when they stop you have to freeze. Anyone moving after you stop the music has to sit down. Last one won a goodie bag.

They had a costume contest but had lots of winners like:
Best Fairy,
Best Wig,
Best Pirate
Best cheerleader

And I guess this just gave the kids more of a chance to win instead of having just one best costume.

Hope this helps and you all have a blast.

I would have to agree with the hot dog suggestion. We recently threw a big pool party for parents and kids. The kids ranged from 12 months to 8 years old. It was the perfect food, everyone could eat it (it was just chopped up for the little ones) and it was cheap and easy. We got a picnic pack from Sam's that had mustard, ketchup and relish. Put that out with some chopped onions and had a easy toppings station. We served it with chips, fruit and we had boxed juices to go with it. And when people insisted on bringing something, we had them contribute a bag of chips, so there was lots of variety for our crowd.

As for games...this website has some Halloween games for the 3-7 crowd. Most looked easy and not messy. I book marked it a while ago, thinking it may come in handy. http://www.partygameideas.com/halloween-games/index-child...

Have fun!

I always love hot dogs, you can precook them and wrap them up in foil and put in the oven on the lowest setting. Then when people are ready to eat they can grab one. Chips, veggies and dips are also easy and everyone likes them.

A nacho bar is fun too! Chips, cheese, ground beef, jalepenos, sour cream, etc. Also can be self served so that it doesnt require a lot of your time. Could also use this same concept as a taco bar (but a little bit messier for kids to eat).

Both are pretty inexpensive.

And shaved ice is always a fun birthday treat! www.CandiSno.com
