Is there any way in preventing pooping on yourself during labor? I did not with my 1st but I am scared to death that I will this time. I know its normal but I will be embarrassed!

What can I do next?

I don't know, but my kid pooped on me on the way out. I could see how things were going to be from the get go. :)

I don't know about you but I was in so much pain I could have pooped peed and puked all over the room and would hardly have cared. I remember before labor being worried about this happening but looking back, it seems funny that is what I was thinking about. I guess the feeling that I was going to die of pain was a distraction. Creating life is messy business!

I've never heard of a way to prevent pooping during delivery! I didn't poop either with my first child but I was pooping and puking with my second child (sorry if TMI) and kept apologizing to my doctor but it didn't seem to phase her one bit - I was so embarassed at the time but looking back on it I realize that they've seen it all! Good luck to you!

Are you sure you didn't the first time? Lol--when you are in the midst of that kind of pain it won't matter

I've heard about this concern before, but really, how would you know that you did or didn't do this?? I was too busy pushing (for over three hours) to care what came out of me besides my daughter. The nurses were right there constantly cleaning up whatever needed cleaning up and the midwife was busy doing what she was there to do. I guess there was alot about labor and delivery that could be considered embarrassing, but I was too busy giving birth to notice or care.

In my career, I have assisted in over 130 deliveries, some do, some don't, we don't care, there are bigger things to worry about. Don't be embarrassed about it, the dr. or nurse won't give it a second thought. Trust me, they aren't going to remember who did or didn't.
You're having a BABY! :) :)

Some doctors/hospitals will give you an enema before hand if it's a real concern for you. Most likely, you won't even know it happened, unless someone tells you.

I asked both times if I pooped and they said no , but a friend of mine did and they whisked it away so fast it was barely noticeable. Most hospitals will still give you an enema in the early stages if you're really concerned. I ws just horribly embarrased because I felt the need to go about midway through when I was on IV drugs and I forgot the pee measuring cup was in the toilet - and I crapped in it! So gross, but they seemed to think nothing of it!

An enema is the only way I know of. IMO, TOTALLY not worth it! lol.

Good lord woman...you are having a baby!!! I totally get what you are saying. I remember when I was pushing with my first son and the midwife (who was a man) told me to push harder. I said, I don't want to fart. He popped his head over my belly and told me to P.U.S.H. They don't care. It's natural, and if you do it just gets wiped away lickety split.

I don't know if I did either time...and I didn't ask. I kinda adapted a don't ask don't tell policy for this because it would have embarrassed me horribly as well...

The docs won't even tell you if it happens. They just wisk it away like nothing happened. I asked my hubby (after months and I thought about it) if I pooped and he said no.

I didnt with my first but did with my second. I'm sure if there was a pat way of preventing it we would have figured it out by now.

I was also concerned and thought I would be mortified if it happened. It DID happen to me but I never even knew - only found out much later when I thought to ask my husband about it. He said the nurse wiped it away so quickly it was like it never happened.

I think you'll get over it quickly.

If you like, you can look into getting a colonic, but sometimes that can induce labor as well. As can castor oil.

I had a very wet labor, after the pad under me was changed for the third time, I just ignored it. Heck, I was rump up most of the time with people I hardly knew coming in and out of the room. I swear I had a different nurse every time.

You won't even know! They OB told me (I had to have a c-section, I asked out of curiosity) they don't even notice anymore! They clean everything up, and get on with business. They seriously don't pay attention to it.

This is so normal, trust me nurses understand. This is a normal reaction...as you never know when labor comes. as you get older you'll understand...

They clean it up fairly quickly........I asked my husband the other day if i pooped with the first 2 he said and i quote "lets not discuss that".....whoops, i really shouldn't have asked.

I doubt there is a way unless you decided to fast around your due date....or before induction. Thats not good for baby.
