My daughter will start kindergarden in the fall. I signed up for 1/2 day I prefer mornings. I was told that everyone wanted mornings and some poeple would be put in afternoon.
Of course I had my days all planned with morning kindergarden and my younger child going to preschool in the morning 2 days a week.. I would have my free time and we would do fun things in the afternoon.. Any advice for an afternoon kindergarden schedule.. shool will start at 1205 so we will have to have a very early lunch to make it to school on time.. I am not sure if we will have time for morning activities ??? how do I work with the schedule..
If you end up in afternoon kindergarten you will have the opportunity to spend one on one time with each of your kids.
Having had both early morning and a later morning schedules, I would say that it really depends on your situation. The split session wasn't offered when my daughter started Kindy, but with my first son (second born) he went in the first session. It was nice to have him home for lunch and have the rest of the afternoon with him although he often ended up taking a nap.
My second son (third/last baby) did the later session. With him, they started about 10:45 in the morning and got out with the rest of the kids at 2pm. He had 45min lunch at school every day whereas the early morning kids only had a snack with a 20min recess. But the thing i like best about the later session was that I could get one on one time with his teacher after school. With my son being the youngest in class (oct baby), I often worried about his behavior and him "keeping up" since a lot of the parents in the area "red shirt" thier kids so half or better of his class were turning 6 while he turned 5. I shouldn't have worried though, but you never know.
So depending on when you get up in the morning you might find that you will be doing "homework" and what not. Also you could always still hit up the local library storytime (my local one starts at 10) and then a quick lunch before school. And depending on when school lets out, you'll probably still have a few hours before dinner to do stuff.

My daughter goes in the afternoon. I love it! There are so many more things to do in the am like story hours and free swim at our local pool. My favorite part is that she is at school in the afternoon while my little ones nap! I can not go anywhere, but I get two hours to myself while the kids nap!!
It can really vary. I would actually be more concerned how it would affect your daughter. Is she a morning or afternoon person? My oldest son is a slugabed so I was very thankful when I was able to get him the afternoon session. We had lazy mornings although a few days a week we'd go to library hour or something. If she's going to school, there's no need to organize a lot of stuff for her in the morning or afternoon, whichever session she gets. You don't want to overload her. Kindy has gotten so academic! It can be h*** o* the kids. And personally, I'd want her in the afternoon class just because it would give two mornings a week that she could have one on one time with you. That's a much bigger issue than worrying about your time. I am NOT saying that you don't need your time though. You certainly do. I would just schedule it on the weekend when your husband could watch the girls for you. Or even on the evenings during the week. That's usually what I do. Our children grow up so quickly and then they're gone. Appreciate the time you have with them. This is a lesson that I have learned the hard way.
My son is going to be in the afternoon session and I'm already stressed about it.
He still naps for two hours a day BUT school doesn't start for another five months. He may possibly outgrow the need for a nap.
I put us on the morning waiting list, ya just never know.

Kids are tired in the afternoon and usually nap. Not at their best.
With another child in the mix, morning would be nice but it's only two days. My oldest had pm and everyone ended up loving it. No rushing out the door in the morning. Most kids seem happy playing at home when they get up. No need for activities... So if you do get pm, you may love it.
