H Clarke Powers is an awesome school in Loomis, high API scores, small community and taking open enrollment for interdistrict transfers. School was built in 2000 it is K-8. We were new last year, and we are very happy there.
It's that time of year to get in applications for Kindergarten.
We're new to the area and going to a school based on your physical
address is new to our family. I looked up the school for my address
and read it's report card...not impressed to say the least.
What other options are available in the area? Granite bay, Rocklin, Loomis,Lincoln
and West Roseville are areas I'm open to commuting for the right school, we are currently in Rocklin.
Thanks so much !
The search for a new school is hard when you move to a new area and the suggestions offered by everyone gave me a good start towards finding our families ideal school.
We've been filling out lots of applications and now it's just a waiting game to see who calls when the schools have determined their student roster for next year.
For anyone else who might be looking through for this same search please feel free to email me through mamasource for the list of schools I gathered, there were surprisingly more schools than I originally thought.
Thanks mommies!

Hi M.,
I live in Lincoln and drive my daughter to Granite Bay Montessori. It's on Sierra College Blvd and it's not that bad of a commute. It's definitely worth it, the school, teachers and curriculum are amazing. My daughter loves it. She is in pre-school now half day and she beggs me to let her go full day! But don't judge the book by the front desk receptionist... she's kinda snotty, but other than that all of the staff and teachers are fantastic.
First of all, kindergarten is not mandatory. So if you can't find someplace to get her enrolled for K it's not crucial from the legal standpoint. There is a Montessori school through a charter school in Lincoln that I have heard good things about. Here is the web site http://lmcc.hcs.k12.ca.us/.
As a mother of 3 girls who have attended Rocklin public schools (one school had nearly the lowest test scores- Antelope Creek), I would definitely NOT let the individual school's test scores deter you from sending your child. The schools with the lowest scores have a population of people that live in apartment complexes, so those kids are a little less "stable" and have not had the same opportunties as other kids. As a former elementary teacher, I can tell you that the teachers in the lowest performing schools are EXCELLENT. They love the kids and work very hard. Your child will receive a superb education and will be exposed to a diverse group of kids, something the higher performing schools cannot necessarily provide. Although we moved out of the Antelope Creek area to the other side of Rocklin, I believe our kids are receiving the same level of education now as they did there. Both Granite Oaks and Spring View schools are great middle schools, and I can attest that Whitney HS is also excellent. Good luck on your decision!

We live in West Roseville, and my 2nd grade son loves his school. However, you have to show documents before you can even get the registration packet for public kindergarten enrollment. You need a birth certificate, shot record, and latest utility bill to verify your address. You might need to look into private or charter schools if you really don't want your kids to go to your neighborhood school. I know they are pretty strict about granting transfers, you really have to work at it! Good luck, and maybe you should visit the school just to see more about it, since I've heard good things about Rocklin schools!
I have 4 boys, two of which are 3 & 5. They attend Granite Bay Schoolhouse and we love it there. They have preschool, pre-K and Kindergarten available. The director is Becki Williams and the phone number is ###-###-####, I believe. It is located off of Sierra College and Douglas close to Bayside Church. Really close to Rocklin. We commute from Loomis and it is worth it. Hope this helps.
I'm in Rocklin as well and also a teacher, though currently staying at home. Just a couple things (don't want to repeat too much information you already got) the Rocklin schools have a pretty high reputation so I'm a little surprised you are looking elsewhere but...For starters, it is very difficult and unlikely that you will be able to do an out of district transfer to another public school district like Eureka (Granite Bay). Unless enrollment is suffering they don't grant requests often. However, if you or your husband work in this area, you can build a strong case for the transfer. There is a bill (can't think of the name) that allows children to attend schools in the district of the parent's employment. You can also, though it's not legal and is done, use a relative or friend's address to get in. If it is discovered though, you'll get the boot. Private schools and Charters are always good options and Rocklin Academy has phenomenal test scores. This could mean several different things though, and I would not recommend making a decision solely based on test scores. Good luck and hope you find something you are happy with.
The local Loomis schools are great, I am not sure about transfering. Also, not sure where you are, but I heard the sierra -something- school on top of Sierra College has a great program and if you are in Rocklin, you can transfer to any Rocklin school that offers something different than your home school.
There also is the Charter in Rocklin, a bit hard to get into, but Loomis also is starting a charter this year( can be found on the internet)
Hi, M.!
I'm in Rocklin as well and I think most schools in our area are very good, with a few exceptions. Would you mind sharing what school are you supposed to be at? I'm just curious. Anyway, if you were going to commute I'd say the only place of those you mentioned being willing to commute to, that would be worthy of commuting to, would be the Eureka School District in Granite Bay. All of the other places you mentioned would be comparable at best to the Rocklin schools. Another option is the Rocklin Academy (charter) but I think their registration may be closed already.
Good luck with your decision!
