My husband and I are thinking about remodeling our kitchen. We were thinking we would use either Home Depot or Lowes. Does anyone have a preference between the two or any experiences with either? Or would it be better to hire a contractor. Help please!

Hi C.,

I don't have any experience with either Home Depot or Lowes, however I am a realtor and have seen the work of Bry-Jo Construction, and they do a fabulous job. They are located in Richardson and are a family owned business...and do top notch work. Their number is ###-###-####. Ask for Maria. I think you would love them, and their quality of service.

I just saw a story on Good Morning America last week maybe? that was about people who have used Home Depot services at their home and have been extremely disappointed. They are getting terrible reviews from bad work, bad customer service, etc. They just use subcontractors to do their work. I would definitely use a recommendation from someone who has used a company and been pleased. Also - make sure to check the Dallas Better Business Bureau to make sure they are members or in good standing. A kitchen remodel is a big deal and a big investment - I would definitely go with someone that has a good reputation. Also - i've heard too many stories lately of people paying everything up front ?? and then contracters leaving with all their $$ and never doing any work - make sure you work out a deal in your contract to protect yourself from this.

I would use a general contractor. Their prices will be a lot lower than either Lowe's or Home Depot. Both Lowe's and Home Depot provide higher estimates than anyone else.
