Hello Ladies... this may seem a silly question to ask... but I have heard that you can microwave kitchen sponges for renewed life and to remove bateria but I just don't know how long you would microwave it for to accomplish this. Has anyone done this, did it work? how long do you microwave it for?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tried the 1 minute and it worked well. I will try the dishwasher method as well. Thank you all for responding.

One minute inthe microwave....you can also put em in the top rack of your dishwasher. That will sanitize them too.

I'm not sure about microwaving. It's seems odd to me. I run mine in the dishwasher on hot and heated drying. If it's hot enough to sanitize a bottle, it's good enough for me.

I usually only nuke my regular sponge for 30 seconds, but it sounds like it might be safe to go a minute. As long as the sponge does not completely dry out, it's fine.

And please be sure to only nuke a wet sponge! It's fine to squeeze as much water as possible out of it before putting it in the microwave, but it should be completely damp. Otherwise, it could catch fire.

Hi Cheryl,

I get mine wet first, then I microwave them for 1 minute. I use a Dobie pad, so I don't how how it works with foam sponges.

Best of luck!

M.
