I'd like to find a place where I can workout a few times a week and has childcare? I'm on a limited budget and would love to hear your ideas and experiences on different places around the city. I want the best value for my money.

I go to Fitness 19 (or maybe it's Fitness 21) in Northbrook. I've been going there for many years and I just don't pay attention to the sign. They have sveral other locations. They are running a special now that costs $12/month I think and they have a child care that is extra but not bad at all. There are no classes at these gyms, just equipment and weights.

I don't know where you're located, but I belong to Jazzercise. It's $35 a month and they provide childcare for morning classes. $2 a session for the first child, and a $1 for any additional children.

The YMCA or YWCA usually provides free childcare while you're at the gym.

Most YMCAs do have child care areas. The one in Berwyn does though I don't know if there is an age minimum. Also, Womens Workout World in neighborhoods offers childcare during certain hours.

Hi! My old YMCA used to have childcare but they closed it a couple years ago. I'm sure the other Y's must have childcare. Also, a XSportFitness that opened nearby has a children area (therefore care?), and their prices are very reasonable. My gym does not, and I wish it did so I could workout more often. Is the third one the hardest to bounce back from? Good luck!

I've had good experiences with my local YMCA (or YWCA). If you don't have a Y near you, your local park district may also have some affordable programs / classes - with childcare available as well.

Oak Park YMCA has one and it is age appropriate. The younger kids are separated from the older(7 up yrs). The younger kids room has a lot of toys and the older kids room has a wii and other fun things they like.

Good luck!

I have memberships at Bally's and the YMCA. Childcare is free at both. You have to make a "reservation" at the Bally's locations but not the Y (at least that is how the locations I use operate). I have been happy with the quality of care and cleanliness most of the time. Only one bad experience at the Y (my son got a rotavirus). The sitter that I had the issue with no longer works there, and I am VERY careful to sanitize his hands when we leave.

FFC (Fitness First Club) in Oak Park is wonderful, although we also have to buy "kid memberships" in order to use the free childcare room and for the kids to be able to join us on Sat. for swim time and rock climbing. They have many locations all over Chicagoland. It is clean and the ratio of kids to adults appears adequate. Plus, you can watch the kids via the TV's attached to the steppers and treadmills on a closed circuit TV programmed for channel 25 which helps calm my nerves about leaving the kids in a daycare situation (not my norm!) Good luck and congrats on the newest arrival!! The childcare is open each day and I don't believe they limit you, other than you can't stay more than 3 hours in one single day.

P.S. I used to belong to the YMCA on Irving Park, but my kids refused to go into childcare there, because "It smells really stinky, like wet socks" in the play structure. It did smell very musty. But, the staff always seemed kind and attentive enough. You had to buy a punch card to use the childcare. I bought a $20 card, but they only went twice, so I lost out. Single visits were $3 per child, so that might add up if you have 3 little ones!

The Belmont YMCA has wonderful childcare at $4/hour, but I"m pretty sure the minimum age is 6 months, and they don't change diapers or accompany your child in the bathroom.

Its been mentioned, but I want to re-emphasize it, the Y is a wonderful resource. Most of them in the city have child care, if you are a member they have great classes for your kids starting at a very early age. Also, with membership to one Y, you can usually go to any of them in Chicagoland!
