Hello Ladies. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with delivering a baby at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. My friend is pregnant and her current OB/GYN delivers at Christ. Please let me know what kind of experience you have had at Christ.....good or bad. Thanks so much!

Hello. I delivered my son at Christ in Oak Lawn over 4 years ago, and if I were to ever have another child I would want to have them at Christ. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful from the moment I arrived until I left 4 days later. The nurses were great and always there to help and answer your questions. Tell your friend, to relax and enjoy all staff and have a great delivery.

Hi A.! I had all three of my kids at Christ and had great experiences all three times. Its great that they have the NICU if needed, my daughter had to go there for a little bit after she was born. All the nurses were great, and they do have private rooms now. I had my last son a year ago and they moved part of the mother/baby unit to another floor so they could have private rooms. I have had friends who delieverd at Palos and weren't really happy, especially with the visiting hours. Please wish your friend luck and I look forward to hearing about her experience!

I had my son at Christ in 2007 and am having my next one there on July 24. They were wonderful!!! I had my first at Palos and will NEVER go back there. The best part about Christ is that if there are any issues, the NICU is right there and it is AWESOME!!! My daughter spent 8 days in there after her birth at Palos.

I was a little nervous at Christ b/c they didn't guarantee a private room (although I had one), but they have since redone it and they are all private now. If you go to their website, you can see some pics. The nurses were great and very helpful. I was very happy there, which is why I am going back! But be aware, it is a teaching hospital. There are many times that students and others will constantly be coming in to check on you. You can say no, but how else are they going to learn? Good luck!

Both of my children were born at Christ (2 in 2 years) and I was also born there. Christ is a wonderful hospital- the staff is great, supportive and extremely caring. My first child was the "usual" birth, but my second ended up going from an induction to an emergency C-section. For my second, although it was a little scary, the staff was very professional and caring during the entire time- I went from everything being okay for about 2 hours to everything going "crazy" for about 5 minutes. Basically, they made a very scary situation more comfortable for me and my husband and the recovery was relaxing and went well. Please let me know if you have any other questions, etc. about Christ- I highly recommend them!

My husband is from the south side and according to him, the only hospital he would go to out there would be Christ. Or the U of C. Your friend wants to be somewhere where she would have access to a NICU and specialists if something were to go wrong. Christ has those. For instance, if someone were to deliver at Little Company of Mary and something went wrong, she and/or the baby would have to be transfered to a hospital that had the facilities and doctors to help with the problem. Christ would be the closest hospital with those facilities and doctors. So it's just better to be at a hospital like that from the beginning, rather than to risk the possibility of having to be transfered. She'll be in good hands.

All three of my boys were delivered there. For first one I wanted to be at Palos because I heard it was more comfortable- but boy was I glad to be at Christ because there were problems with my first two deliveries. Oldest had a hard time breathing at first and needed extra help and they are the best hospital to be at for that help. I knew after that I wanted the extra support available at Christ and didn't even try for Palos even though my doctor also worked out of that hospital. With my second, it turned out that he ended up distressed because the cord had wrapped up around his neck twice. In no time flat, they got extra help in there and were ready to help him after delivery. Had to be monitored for awhile but it turned out fine. Third delivery was thankfully uneventful that way. On downside, after delivery it is hard to share room with another mother because there is always a nurse coming in to check on someone every hour or two- so hard to really rest. My youngest is six now- so maybe it has changed. Try to request private room, then it was no much extra and well worth it but number of rooms were limited and it was on a first come first serve basis. If being induced- try to plan for this. Also it is a teaching hospital, so I did have to put up with being asked questions by new doctor when I hardly felt like talking while in labor. Hope that helps!

Someone just asked this question 2 weeks ago, but when I try to look back at previous responses, it doesn't go back that far. I wish it would, then I would cut and paste the link so you could see all the GREAT things the moms who delivered there had to say.

Maybe one of the mothers who responded can find this in their 'my files' section and cut and paste the link for you?

I do not have experience with the L&D there but it is an outstanding hospital (our experience is limited to a handful of ER trips).

I had a great experience at Christ. I delivered my daughter last year in August 2008 and had to have a c-section (breech). The nurses are all expereinced and very caring, the rooms are private ( no sharing), visiting hours are 12-8 but the nurses are very lenient. I had a late delivery and by the time I got out of recovery it was about 11 pm, and the nurses let my mother up to visit at that time throughthe emergency entrance because main door is closed by then. It is clean and Hope Children's Hospital is right next door , one of the best children's hospitals in the area. If you would deliver at Palos Hospital and any complications arose witht he baby they would transport to Hope anyways, so it's good to be right on site. Anyways.... Overall I would give the hospital an A.

I had both of my children at the Christ Hospital L&D; They are the greatest ever. They are very nice and helpful. My husband could not be at the birth of our second child, and one of the doctors stayed by my bed and helped me along. They are the best that I have been to.
