My husband and I are expecting our second child next month and our refresher Lamaze class was canceled at the last minute. We had a wonderful Lamaze class with baby #1 and we felt it really helped us during labor. It also was great for giving my husband some tips and things to do during the process! So, we were wondering if there were any DVD's out there recommended that we could watch to refresh our memory or any doulas available for a private at-home session? We live in central Maine, Augusta/Waterville area. Thank you for your help!

What can I do next?

If you liked Lamaze you'll love taking the Bradley Method classes. This birthing class really helps you and even more so your husband know all the signs and stages of labor so that he can help you without you having to tell him what to do and when. You can check it out her http://www.bradleybirth.com/ and search for classes near you. Good luck!

I don't know any personally, but if you contact the hospital where you will deliver, they may have dulas on staff. I delivered at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and they have I believe two dulas on staff. Also check with your OB/GYN.

Actually, I would recommend you try hypnobirthing. It has similarities to Lamaze, but takes it several steps further so that birthing is a relaxing experience. I ended up with an emergency c-section and used it to help with THAT pain! My sister has hypnobirthed 2 kids and not only was it pain-free, but relaxing, peaceful, and a warm environment for the child to leave the womb into. Check it out!

Hypnobirthing, hypnobirthing, hypnobirthing I can't say it enough. A great class that teaches you not just how to breath but how to meditate. If the class is not available where you live. Get the c.d's it comes with for visualizations and meditations that you can listen to at night.I wish I still had the ones I was using but they were borrowed.
