T., I live in Downers Grove and I use a Mexican guy who works for Hinsdale Nursery. I do not go through Hinsdale Nursery, so I pay much less. If you're interested I can email you his name and cell phone. He speaks enough English to get by. He's a hard worker and did our lawn every week, plus I bought plants/trees at Hinsdale Nursery and he did all the planting, moving, etc. He works for about $15-20/hour, but he doesn't charge by the hour. I just tell him what I want, and he gives me a flat rate.

I am a Landscape Designer and have a small woman-run company. I can build a design for you, then either show you how to do it yourself or refer you to some fantastic landscape companies who can do your work for a very reasonable price.

My thought is you shouldn't have to pay extreme prices for basic work.

I can't give you a good recommendation, but I can tell you we had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience with Monarch Outdoor Creations. It almost went to court - that's how bad.

I would highly recommend Strong Landscaping. They are based in Warrenville: ###-###-####. We hired Chris Strong and his crew to help with landscaping around our new home and to install a paver patio in our backyard and they did a terrific job. They're reasonably priced, very easy to work with, straightforward and friendly. Chris is great with suggestions--he takes pictures of the areas you want to landscape and then comes up with ideas he thinks you might like--he is very knowledgeable about what plants and trees work in different areas.
