Laser Resurfacing for Your Face

I am currently pregnant with my second child and my skin has taken a beating during both back to back pregnancies. (I am sure the sun exposure in my teens didn't help matters either!) I have sun spots and other patches of brown skin along with wrinkles. My obg/yn is also a specialist in facial resurfacing and I was interested in feedback from other mom's who had good results. I know it's expensive and not covered by insurance so that is why I am wondering if it is worth the money. Thanks for your feedback!

Think about the Galvanic Spa...
Look at it here www.spabeautyathome.com. and www.iwantmoreinfo.biz access code 128776
It has been on the Today show. It actually lightens spots and smooths wrinkles..you will see a difference after just one 10 min treatment. It is painless, non invasive and will make you look 10 years younger in 10 mins!
I would be happy to show it to you if you live close to East Bridgewater. if not , if you do get it is 100% money back guaranteed and comes with a DVD o show you the best techniques to use.
And the best news of all is the company has just completed 9 years of clinical trials with Purdue University and they have discovered the enzyme/ free radicals that cause the skin to age and starting in January they will place and ingredient in the gels for the Spa that is proven to STOP the aging process of the skin..totally...
so check it out and let me know if you have questions. ###-###-####

I'd wait to see how much they fade. I have them too, some from pregnancy and some from previous sun damage (the spots also run in my dad's family). The pregnancy ones were much darker and I was very self conscious. DD is almost 2 and they are finally lightening. I've had a few facials with peels and use vitamin C moisturizers, which seems to brighten my face but it's definitely not back to my beautiful 25 year old perfection!

I also definitely would not have my OB/GYN take care of this. I would see a dermatologist or other practitioner who spends all their time on skin. From what I understand any doc can take a weekend seminar in various cosmetic procedures and then be "specialists" in it. If someone was lasering my face, I'd want to make sure they were spending lots and lots of time lasering faces, versus someone who added it as a side thing to make additional money from their existing patient base.

Are the brown patches due to hormonal changes from your pregnancies? I know I had them then, but they're gone now. Have you always had them or just in recent years? If just in recent years, I would definitely wait to see if they disappear on their own first.

I agree that it would be wisest to wait. Here is something I found that seems to describe your condition:

Chloasma ("mask of pregnancy" or melasma). Some women experience a brownish darkening of the facial skin. This change is called the “mask of pregnancy.” It is more common in women with dark hair and pale skin. The woman usually has brownish, uneven marks on the forehead, temples and middle of her face. Sometimes the marks appear around the eyes or over the nose. The darkened areas may get even darker when exposed to sunlight. These marks usually fade completely after delivery.

Good luck with your new baby!

I don't know anything about laser resurfacing, but I would advise waiting a year before doing anything. It's pretty common to get brown spots during pregnancy that go away over time without any expensive procedures.

Hi A.,

Laser Resurfacing is definitely worth it. It works well and the results last for quite a while. I work in dermatology and have seen it over and over. My only concern would be letting an ob/gyn do it. I don't think they have enough knowledge and experience to really know what they are doing. That is just an overall statement, I am sure there are some that really do know what they are doing. You just want to make sure you really have a good one doing it. There are plenty of qualified derms in Mass so if you are looking for any names I would be happy to help with that. Good luck in your desicion and the rest of your pregnancy!

I would recommend having Microderm Abrasion done on your face. Microderm Abrasion is a physical exfoliator, the visible appearance of lines, wrinkles and skin discoloration and scars are reduced. I know that spas change about $150 or more for one treatment. I am a skin care consultant and would recommend an in-home Microderm Abrasion kit. The at-home treatment kit costs $60.50 and you can get at least 12 treatments per jar. Any questions just email me at ____@____.com
