My friend's neighbor did something cute. They hung a huge sign on the garage saying WELCOME TO SUMMER! When the kids got off the bus they had popsicles and water guns ready for them. :) I am going to have to copy this next year!
Anyone have any creative ideas of things to do / make / sing when my Kindergartener gets off the bus for the last time as a kindergartener tomorrow? This would be a good time to start a tradition.... i am usually pretty creative, but I am stumped.
My friend's neighbor did something cute. They hung a huge sign on the garage saying WELCOME TO SUMMER! When the kids got off the bus they had popsicles and water guns ready for them. :) I am going to have to copy this next year!
I waited by the bus stop and fired a bubble machine at all the kids getting off the bus. It was really cute.
I also put a huge summer sign on our front door with a bucket filled with sand and a shovel sticking out of it next to the door, and beach balls all over the yard. I also put yellow streamers across the doorway so my son had to break through. He loved it and I'm sure it was a sight to see as the bus came down the street and approached the house.
I had filled the freezer with different frozen treats - ice cream, popscicles, ice cream bars and sandwhiches. When he opened the freezer he was floored with all his options. We invited the neighbor kids over and they got to pick what they wanted and we had sort of an ice cream party with the beach balls in the front yard and I even ran the sprinkler. It was a refreshing way to start the summer.
Dont they celebrate in school and have treats?
Can you pose him in the same place, and same or similar clothes as his first day of K picture?
Don't make it too hard to keep up with year after year. How about a big tall pitcher of lemonade to drink together when she gets home...or you could make it together from fresh squeezed lemons.
Then make a big poster with all the activities you want to do this summer...catch bugs, make homemade bubbles, make homemade popsicles, draw with chalk, weekly library trips, bike rides...etc. Then she can cross off the activity as you do it.
We have a dear friend of 4 young kids. This was her tradition. She passed away suddenly a month into summer vacation last year. That poster still graces their home with all the activities they did together crossed off. Yet, still so many activities left undone. Ohhh...it breaks my heart. Dang, I just put a downer on this post eh?
Ok...but what I was getting at was that this mom was keeping up with a tradition. It will be a great memory of their mom. They continue the tradition without her.
You could make a sign that hangs across your front door that says something like "Welcome Summer!!" and she can run through and bust through it!
Have a fun summer!! Summer is our most favorite time of year!!
I've always picked my son up right from school the last day and take them out to eat and a movie. It's always a half day. My son is in 3rd grade so this will be the 4th year plus my daughter's first end of the year since she's in kindergarten. I know my son always looks forward to spending the afternoon with me.
are you talking big and crazy like inside your front door you have a finish line banner they have to bust through?
or a little more low key like decorating your minivan with window markers and crepe paper etc. Schools out for Summer blasting on your tape deck...er i mean Sirus
Have a basket ready with summer items chalk, bubbles, etc. We're heading for a surprise trip to the beach, not even telling him where we're driving to. I also have a kindergartner.
We are getting a bunch of kids together - mostly from his school but a few friends from other schools too - and having a picnic at a local park. Nothing fancy, but a fun way for the kids to celebrate. I'm guessing there will be cupcakes.
Another option would be a pool party. We thought about that one but decided a park would be easier. We did a pool party last year on the first day of school!
My son is in kindergarten too.
We did a last day of school breakfast this year (daughter was in K). They then have a picnic (bounce houses, face painting, mini train, popcorn, nachos, cotton candy, balloon animals) on the last day of school so her father and I attended that with her! I plan on doing this until my youngest goes to 4th grade which is at a different school.
Go for a banana split at the local ice cream shop. Share it and talk about all the fun you'll have over the Summer.
Not sure what you are looking for. Yay schools out. Lets go have lunch!
I mean its Kindergarten. And so summer begins.
