Leather Furniture Protection Plan?

My husband and I are purchasing a living room sofa with sleeper, loveseat & chair in taupe leather. My question is whether or not it would be worth the $348 for a 7 year premium protection plan that includes pretty much everything except animal teeth, beak and claw marks. Our kids are 6, 3 and 1 and we have 2 cats and a dog. I am leaning against it because I'm a penny pincher and feel that in the event something happened, at that point we would just find a local repair shop and it would be cheaper than the $348 up front. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

Don't buy it, we did years ago when our kids were younger thinking it would be easy to have the furniture cleaned etc. but only had the pieces cleaned once because the company changed several times over the course of the 5 year protection plan. This is a great way for the furniture company to make more money and in our case after owning the furniture for 15 years it is now in the basement and we got new upstairs. I think you could have your furniture cleaned much cheaper and with less hassle. I hope this helps!

We have 3 leather sets in our house and have never purchased a plan like that.

We have 1 daughter, 15, and 3 dogs.

The set we use most is in the living area by Natuzzi and purchased from Dillards in 2000. Most people would never know it is a 10 yr old set. Regular wipe down works wonders. The dogs sleep on this set most often and just melt into it. They love it...I love it because I just wipe it down.

The sofa in the game room is about 15 yr old, Natuzzi from Weirs. No issues

The set in the formal area is from Leather Sofa Company which is custom made and not available for use by our dogs but used a lot with daughter, friends and people stopping in.

I jsut wipe it all down regularly.

We bought leather furniture and I regret not getting the protection plan. The first few times you have to wipe it off - no problem, but then the top layer starts to rub off. I'd get it.

I would recommend it, only because we recently had an experience and needed to use ours. However our plan was a lot less expensive. You'd be surprised what comes happens to furniture with little ones around, and so I guess it is up to your price for peace of mind for the first 7 years you own the furniture. You could run the risk of local repair shops ripping you off more, and not doing a great job. If the protection plan is through the company you bought the furniture from, they'll do a better job at fixing things if something does come up, like matching color and stuff like that. Hope this helps.
God Bless!
