Good morning! Ok, might be a dumb question so here goes. How hot does it get in California in early June? We are considering taking our kids to LEGOLAND in Carlsbad CA next summer and not sure what time during the summer to go. We have only been to Santa Barbara CA but that was in the middle of November and during the day weather was 65/70 degrees and we were by the ocean.
I wanted to wait until early October to take them but my DH does not want to pull the kids out of school for that week when we can do during the summer. Feedback is appreciated! Thank you mamas and papas!

ps, I know that I could always google the answer but I wanted to hear from people who either live there or have been there during that time. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

oh man! decisions! sounds like October would be the month to go! Rats! That is one thing we did encounter in Santa Barbara in November was the fog. I did not like that! When you are not used to driving in that plus SUPER FAST TRAFFIC....it can be nerve racking! I swear I was white knuckling the steering wheel the whole time! Yeah, I am not good with lots of traffic either. Bummer!!!! Well thanks for your feedback, looks like we will have to make some decisions. Thanks all!

ETA: YES!! To In 'n Out burger!! Wish we had them here in Georgia!!

I've not been in SoCal for almost 3 years. I miss it.

Carlsbad is the coast. In June it can be anything and everything - foggy, hazy, and yucky. Temps can be in the mid 70's.

You will encounter a lot of tourists at that time. Many others will have the same thoughts as you!

Expect traffic like you've never seen in your life. You will want to fly into San Diego and not LAX. San Diego Airport (aka Lindbergh Field) is about 45 minutes south of LEGOLAND and LAX is about 90 minutes north and straight shot up Interstate 5. If you fly into LAX, you'll have to maneuver around the 405 and then the 5 south. What a mess.

I'm from SoCalif, but don't live there now.

June in all of the SoCalif coastal cities is referred to as "June Gloom" because of hazy, misty, foggy conditions that last pretty much all day, until the late afternoon. You can drive one hour inland, have 90 degree, sunny, summer heat. But not along the coast.

I personally think it's not warm enough for shorts, and too warm for jeans. You'll need a very light windbreaker / jacket for evening.

Ditto Wild's In-N-Out Burgers!

S.,

In June on the coast it will be in the mid 70s to low 80s. Every year is a little different!

There is an In 'n Our Burger about 1.5 miles from Legoland - don't forget to hit that!! YUMM!!!

If you go in October - crowds will most likely be less than in June.

How old are your children? I suggest it's best to not take them out of school.

June typically isn't that hot in So Cal, especially early in the month and especially in San Diego. I think the weather would be just fine. My family just spent five days at Legoland (more than necessary but we got a good deal!) in late August and even then it was fine. San Diego is a lot milder than other parts of So Cal and really doesn't get uncomfortably hot very often. There weren't any crowds on the weekdays when we were there either. We weren't there on a Saturday, but the Sunday we were there wasn't too bad either.

We stayed at the Legoland hotel. It is pricy, but we were happy there. There are ups and downs. The biggest pro is the proximity to the park - you are right by the entrance. The kids get free legos to keep in their room every day and there is a separate sleeping area (bunk beds plus a trundle) even in the standard rooms. The downsides - the food wasn't that great and the pillows and chair in the room were really uncomfortable.

Have fun!
