Lice Help

I have head lice and need someone to pick these nits out of my head. I used the lice shampoo twice and combed out at least 2 dozen nits but I don't know if they're all gone. My husband doesn't know what to look for on my head so he can't help much. Plus it's very time-consuming and with him picking at my head and tending to our child, it will be difficult.

Actually, I really want to go to a hairdresser, someone who knows what to look for and has the time to pick through my head.

Do you know of any hair salons who will do this? How much does it cost? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I think getting lice professionally removed will be quite expensive. When my daughgter had lice sometime ago, I mixed a few drops of tea tree oil in coconut oil and massaged in her hair. Then with lice and nit removing combs (available at walgreens for $9.99) I combed her hair several times. Repeat next day or the day after. They will all be gone. The lice problem happened with my daughter twice over past few years and this stratedy worked perfectly both times. Good luck.

It's not real close to you, but probably would be worth the drive! I got lice when my daughter had them years ago. So did our neighbors. My neighbor and I spent quite a bit of time combing through each other's hair. Not fun!

Hair salons will not touch you until you are nit-free. Found that out the hard way :) Where I live, it's actually part of the regulations - they could loose their license, it sounded like!

Maybe you have a girlfriend or mom who can help you out?

As a cosmetologist I know that most salons will not let you in the door if you have lice or nits. If you call your personal stylist she may do a house call for you, but it will be expensive. My best advice is to enlist the help of a family member or a friend. Our household had them once years ago and I had to teach my 8 year old son how to look for nits and comb them out for me.
Good Luck!

So sorry to hear about those little buggers! They are so hard to control. Our school has recommended a company and I know one family who used them and were very pleased. Their products are all natural and they will help you with hair and your house, if needed.

My friend's daughter had lice. She nearly drove herself crazy going through her daughter's hair and her other 3 childrens' hair. Plus doing all the clean-up, etc. She was never sure she was doing enough to make sure they didn't spread and to destroy all of them. I researched companies for her. She ended up using Ronna at http://www.nitwitz.com/index.html . She said Ronna was excellent. She came out twice I think and also did some counseling over the phone. My friend needed reassurance she was doing the right things and doing them the right way. The service comes at a cost, but sometimes you can't put a price on your time, your sanity and health. Even without using a service there is a cost involved with using products, lice combs, throwing things out, detergent, washing everything in hot water.

Hope this helps! Ronna was also good because she would come to your house AND she was the only one who would come to the west suburbs. It seemed to me that many of the companies only covered the north suburbs and the city.

Ugh! That was my worst fear when my daughter had it this fall. Who would pick my hair? I did end up having a friend who was an experienced picker come over (she worked in daycare!) but someone I know used a professional service for themselves. Good luck!

We had a lice scare at my daughter's preschool last year. Thank goodness she never got them. I did my research- just in case. There is a place in Lincoln park called the Hair fairies and they help get rid of lice and do lice prevention. Here is the website.

There is also an all natural Lice killing shampoo- I have only found it online.

Is your child in school? Go to the school nurse and ask her/him. They are trained to look for that.

Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of it, but there is a place on Clark St. in Chicago that handles lice. Google it and good luck!

Google lice hair salons & the biggest city near you. If you live near Chicago, then google "lice hair salons Chicago".
