I LOVE LOVE LOVE my umbrella stroller, they start around $20, and they are light, compact and do the job. Once I got the umbrella stroller, I sold my other stroller, it was just too big!
I am looking for advice regarding a lightweight, compact stroller. Right now we have a Rock Star Baby stroller, which we love, but it is a bit heavy and big for traveling. I wondering if anyone knows of a good stroller that we could throw in the back of our car that wouldn't take up the back of our car. Any advice is most welcome, especially with holiday travel coming up. Thanks!
Thank you to everyone for the advice! We never even thought to try out the baby in the different strollers, I blame the lack of sleep :)
Anyway, thank you again!

You should check out the Chicco brand strollers I ahve the cto.5 stroller as well as a chicco double. They are perfect for travel and quick trips. It also has great storage and is very sturdy. you can buy them at babies r us for about 80.00.
my son is almost 2 and he fits great in it and we have had it since he was 9mnths old so its a great stroller.
Good luck I know how hard it is to pick the right stroller I tried many!
I bought a Combi stroller for traveling and I love it. My son is now 2 and is about 35" tall and close to 30 lbs and he fits comfortably in the stroller. He loves it. We also have a Graco full size but the Combi is so light and has a sholder strap I can easily carry my son the stroller and purse or diaperbag. I went with the Combi over the Mclaren and I am glad I did. :)
We have a Graco Ipo stroller, which is like an umbrella stroller, but a little sturdier. It's not as lightweight as the $20 umbrella strollers, but it handles better, is compact and our daughter seems to find it comfortable. It's pretty easy to tote and takes up much less space in the car than a regular stroller. It also has a handle for carrying that is padded...which might be a consideration if you're travelling & have to carry the stroller for any distance.
There is also a thing called go-go baby that attaches to the carseat. It's really handy for wheeling baby around an airport (and then you can check your regular stroller). We used it on a trip last month and it was great.
I have a Maclaren Volo which I absolutely LOVE! I have flown cross country with many times (when I was flying alone with my toddler son) and used around town. I paid $90 for it, but would do it again in a heart beat. Not only is it strong, sturdy and safe (with a 5 point harness), it is also great for taller parents because it is much taller than those cheap-o umbrella strollers. Oh, and not only does it fold up nice and skinny, it also has a built in shoulder strap to carry it with (and it is lightweight to carry at less than 10 lbs.). It is so easy to use that you can push it with one hand and fold/unfold with one hand. My son is now 4 and the Maclaren is still doing just fine and we have even used it on a recent trip to Disney (it can hold 50+ lbs). Why spend/waste $20 a year on a cheap-o umbrella stroller when this one will last you 5 times as long (at least) and make your life a bit easier along the way?
I have a maclaren we love it - Both my 4 year old and two ear old love it. We a double stoller but its a nightmare bringing it to the mall so we use this one and they take turns.. My four year old rarley goes in it but its nice to contain one and just chase the other..
Hey R., I love my Cico. Great stroller!
I have a maclaren. They are really light and compact. Plus, you can lower the back part if your child wants to sleep.
Well I don't know the brand names, but have your tried the ultimate lightweight, compact umbrella stroller? Of course they don't carry anything other than your child. I have found that it worked fine, even for my 9 month old. You can find them in most box retail stores. Good luck and enjoy the travels!
I love my Chicco stroller. I don't know exactly which model mine is, but to me it's like a sturdier version of an umbrella stroller. I like it better than the typical umbrella strollers because it has a nice-sized basket underneath and it has a five-point harness. Obviously it is more expensive, but not outrageously so.

Hi R.
When my daughter was 10 months old I took her out to California, I wanted to travel as light as possible (yeah right)so instead of bring the full size stroller I had I decided to pick up an umbrella stroller while I was out there. I also figured since they are inexpensive I could donate it if I didn't want to lug it back. I wound up bring it home and I actually used it quite a bit, it took up less room in my truck and in crowded places it not in the way as much.
Hope this helps.

R.,
We have a big stroller for shopping and stuff, but for travel we always use an umbrella stroller. They take up no room at all, the baby loves it and it was only $20 or so. The only drawback is there is very little storage, only a mesh bag attached to the back but if you plan for that it should be no problem at all! Hope this helps!
I really like the combi stroller. It folds as small as an umbrella stroller, but has alot more support and it's taller so you're not all hunched over!
Try them out. I got great reviews about the combi, my sister had one & I remembered loving it with my niece - so it seemed like a natural choice for me. Unfortunately my boy just does not fit it & he is always uncomfortable when we use it. That is not to say I don't recommend it, but it may or may not work out for you. The Mclaren is great but if your child tends to lunge forward they will tip. For the price, you can't beat an umbrella stroller (sometimes free at Babies r'us promotions), but they are not a longevity type investment. Finally, at 8 months, I am not sure what options are available. As an infant & until now (he's 4), I use my peg perego venezia as my travel stroller. It is relatively light, holds a car seat, sturdy for playground type surfaces, easy to maneuver, faces towards parent or street, & although smaller than most "travel system strollers", it is larger than the umbrella type. All said, this is such a personal thing, like do you need a large basket, a cupholder, a shade canopy,....these are some things to think about. Sorry for the lousy advice, but good luck & I am curious to know what you choose in the end.

We have a combie stroller and really like it. It is very light weight like 12lbs and folds up so you can easily carry on your shoulder with the shoulder strap. I have taken it on plane trips and it is great in crowded places (airports, shops, malls, festivals)because it is small and has swivel front wheels. We have the rain cover which I used last winter to help keep my baby warm on windy days also. I think it is better than an umbrella because it has a visor, cup holder, basket and if the baby/ toddler is sleeping it reclines and has a smooth ride. Down sides the basket is small, no snack tray, and one handed stearing is difficult. Hope this helps.
