We've been using the same vet clinic for a couple of years now but we are starting to doubt their services and thought that we would check a few others out. To give you an idea, when we adopted one of our dogs we took her in to be spaded. The vet noticed a scar on her abdomen and thought she might have already been spaded but decided to cut her open anyway. Turns out she was spaded and we still had to pay the full price, not to mention the discomfort our dog had to go through.
Has anyone ever used Litsey Animal Hospital in Watauga? I've read some good reviews, but would like to hear some other thoughts on their clinic.

You will not find a better vet or better staff. They treat every animal that comes in like it was their own. They're also just awesome people..go for it!
I was a vet tech for several years and we never subjected a dog or cat to anesthesia and unnecessary surgery unless we were 100% convinced they were not spayed already. This can usually be told by doing an x-ray. My opinion of them charging you full price for nothing but opening her up and looking is outrageous. I would contact the BBB and file a complaint as well as contact the Texas Veterinary Board. If you have not voiced a complaint directly to the vet you need to do that as well. Explain to him that you feel as if you were taken advantage of and would like an explanation as to why you were charged the full price. If you aren't satisfied with his answer I would tell him you will be seeking a new Vet and that you will possibly consider further action. I know this vet's name but can't recall much. I think his/her original clinic was in Arlington many years ago, but I may be incorrect in saying that. This is a subject that I get defensive about because there are so many great vets out there and just a few who are not. Those are the ones who make it difficult for the rest. I went there with an older cat who was having digestive problems. He recommended an $800 endoscopy test, I decided to get another opinion and went to Park Glen and they advised me to change foods, problem solved. I think my visit there was $30.
It seems like Litsey could have chosen to do an ultrasound to see if she for sure had been spayed.
My family and I have seen Dr Metcalf at Davis Blvd Animal Clinic for years!! They take very good care of our pets and I would not see another. I wouldn't really know about prices as I don't compare them to others - but I do think they are reasonable or I wouldn't be seeing them. Here is their contact info:

I have used Litsey since 2003. I have always been satisfied with their services. I had to have my dog put down last June and they were even good with that. They let me stay with him the whole time and they gave him a little anesthesia gas to make sure he felt no pain.
As far as annual vaccines, I went to www.vaccinateme.org and look for a them to be in my area, usually Keller Feed Store. You can get your pet vaccinated for a fraction of the cost that Vet's charge. Right now, the city of NRH has a sign on Mid Cities about cheap vaccines as well.
We have gone to Litsey since we got our dog in 2003. Our dog is epileptic and they have always taken great care of him. Good luck!
I'm no expert, but that does not sound right! I would never take my animal back there. Seems like an xray would have been the prudent thing to do if they truly weren't sure about whether it hadn't been fixed or not. Good grief! Your poor dog.
My dog died of old age last September, but for about 10 of her 13 1/2 years, I took her to Dr. TJ Walker on N. Davis Street in N. Arlington, and was very happy with his services. He truly loves and cares about the animals. I wouldn't hesitate recommending him to anyone. I say change vets NOW! Good luck! B.
Don't have experience with Litsey but go to Parkside Animal Hospital in Keller on Rufe Snow near Tarrant Parkway. Have been going to them since we moved here in 2003 and started dealing with our dog's allergies. They've always been great they call a couple days after visits to check on meds and make sure there were no weird reactions to shots etc. and I don't feel as though they push unnecessary services.
