Looking for an easy self cleaning litter box that isn't ridiculous in price, any recommendations?

What can I do next?

I used the Litter Maid for years. I loved it. I never had any problems with it, and I had two cats. I think it runs between $80 and $100. You can get it just about anywhere I think. The plastic containers that catch the litter are a little expensive though. I would use them twice, at least. You can dump the mess out, put a little baking soda in it and use it again. They also say that you have to use the Litter Maid brand litter. Not true. I used Tidy Cats for Small Spaces or Multi Cat. As long as it's a good clumpinmg litter, you can use it. Don't use the crystals though. I know the box is expensive, but it more than paid for itself for the years I had it. There was no cat smell (even w/ 2 cats) and I never had to worry about scooping.

I use the sifting cat pan linners that all you do is pull one up and it sifts it into another one that is waiting right there....It's better then having to go through the cat pan yourself....I know the brand I bought was Tidy cat but I know at Wal-mart they have their brand....They come in like 10 to a packageso that is 10 cleanings before you have to go buy more...

S., I just have an "avoid" recommendation. I used the Litter Maid before and it malfunctioned horribly! It never stopped running once the sensor went off and the cats couldn't use it again until I got home and reset it! Plus, their customer service was the worst I've ever experienced. Sorry I don't have a more productive response, but thought this might be helpful nonetheless. Good luck!

Whatever you do, don't go with LitterMaid. I had the Elite. It worked fine for the first couple weeks then just quit. I used the proper clumping litter. I have 3 cats. Whenever it would come upon a clump from the cats peeing, it would stop and go back to the starting position. I ended up having to clean the self-cleaning catbox daily. I just pitched it. Waste of money. Right now I have 2 litterboxes because I don't know which are worth the money, either.
